When the first Xbox came out, I wasn't that impressed with the machine. To be honest, it took me a month or so to even pick it up even with a launch title like Halo. They had some OK games at the time, but nothing there that really screamed at me to pick up on launch day.
Compared to what was offered at the time, I thought the Xbox was OK. The controller was large and unwieldy. The box's internals wasn't bad. You had to get a dongle to even play DVDs.
But, having another player in the ecosystem is a good thing and helps drive others to improve. The story of how Microsoft got started and what they had to go up against is really fascinating.
