Maid of Sker brings the spooky (and the music!) in new trailer

When I first saw the reveal trailer for Wales Interactive’s Maid of Sker, I thought that we were in for another wander-the-haunted-house-while-the-rooms-shift-around-you game. But seeing this new trailer, it is clear that Maid of Sker is much more than that.

Beyond the gorgeous visuals, there are several new features at play in Maid of Sker that sound intriguing, not the least of which is the “sound-based AI system”. I believe that the phrase means that these creepy faceless dudes that are wandering around causing a ruckus can actually hear you, and will react to sounds you make with deadly violence. That would explain the shot in the trailer of the lead character covering her mouth to prevent ol’ Faceless from hearing her breath. Creepy, and neat.

Maid of Sker comes to us from some of the minds behind SOMA, Don’t Knock Twice, and Battlefield 1, so there is a lot story-telling power going into this one. And that music. Wow.

Features

  • 3D sound-based AI system as the core survival mechanic.
  • A chilling story inspired by Welsh folklore fusing psychological, gothic and British horror.
  • Realistic visuals featuring 4k uncapped on PC (1080p 60fps minimum) and enhancements on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.
  • Re-imagining of famous Welsh hymns Calon Lân (A Pure Heart), Suo-Gân (Welsh Lullaby) and Ar Hyd Y Nos (All Through the Night) from the spine-chilling voice of Tia Kalmaru.

Maid of Sker is scheduled to release on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 in June, 2020, with a Switch release the following October.
