We Happy Few fans get a free PS VR experience

More On: We Happy Few

We Happy Few, the wild survival title that has been in early access for a couple of years, arrives on consoles today. As a bonus treat for PlayStation VR owners, a side story has been dropped into the PlayStation Store for the low, low price of "free".

We Happy Few centers on Wellington Wells, a British town that is seemingly trapped in the late 1960's (fashion-wise, at least). Wellington Wells has a dark past, but they maintain a shiny veneer on the world (with the dark bits covered up) by keeping the entire population doped up on "Joy", a dangerous drug that wipes out all of the negative aspect of life and replaces them with flowers and smiley faces. Check out the above release trailer for a bit of the game's unique vibe. It's dark and funny and weird, and I kind of love it.

In the new experience, "Uncle Jack Live VR", players are cast as the executive producer of the Uncle Jack show, a television program that is embedded in the world of We Happy Few. Players keep busy controlling the cameras and content as they move through the production of the episode. Uncle Jack reacts dynamically to the decisions you make, and if you anger him enough, he will shut the entire broadcast down.

While it doesn't sound like the deepest experience, cool bonuses like this are always welcome to help flesh out a game's universe. In addition to the interactive parts of "Uncle Jack Live VR", players get access to a wealth of side content, including over 40 Uncle Jack episodes to watch, some soundtrack selections, and other bonus materials. For those on the fence about We Happy Few, this might be worth a look for a taste of the game's sensibilities.

We Happy Few is now available on PS4, Xbox One, and Steam.
