Ubisoft brings a little musical relaxation to your hectic holiday season

More On: Ode

Ubisoft, as a company, is kind of a trip. While they crank out mega-budget open world spectaculars (Assassin’s Creed, Ghost Recon, For Honor), they also take the time to produce more experimental product. For example, Ubisoft dabbled extensively in the VR market this year, producing several cross-platform titles when very few other companies of their stature were attempting such things.

In this exploratory spirit, Ubisoft released a new little musical game on PC yesterday named Ode. Retailing for the low price of $4.99, Ode is described as “an enchanting visual and musical journey through beautiful landscapes.” The game has little in the way of instruction or tutorials, preferring to allow players to learn through exploration and experimentation. The main character wanders around collecting stars, which in turn intensify and bring new aspects to the musical score.

Developed by Ubisoft Reflections, the group behind Grow Home, this little title seems absolutely beautiful visually, and more than a little chill. I think it is so cool that a game company of this magnitude still finds time and resources to invest in smaller, more select experiences of this nature. At a price of five bucks, it’s clear that they just want people to experience this cool thing they made, and that sentiment is admirable and appreciated this time of year.
