So the word is out. Sonic, the incredibly less interesting mascot of Sega, and Mario, Nintendo's plunger carrying icon, are meeting at last. While many fans were hoping for the match up to be in a Super Smash Bros. game the bad news is that they are instead competing in Track and Field events in Beijing China. While Olympic styled games have a long and varied history on game platforms of all types I just can't see anyone getting excited unless they get to shot put Tails and toss javelins at Toadstool.

The game is timed to promote the upcoming Olympic summer games and features levels designed around the actual Beijing event sites. Sports games definitely seem popular on the Wii, lets see if this meeting of video game legends will be a more Mario-tastic experience or a just another Sonic-ful disappointment.
