The Mario Kart series is 25 years old this year, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe selling like hotcakes on Switch. Appropriately, Digital Foundry is charting the series' technological evolution from the SNES through the N64, DS, Wii and beyond. It's curious to remember that Super Nintendo's Mode 7 scaling was revolutionary at the time, imparting a 3D effect on limited hardware, when today we have Mario Kart 8 Deluxe running in HD at 60fps on Switch.
