Ken Follett's The Pillar's of the Earth reverses a trend... the book came first

More On: Ken Follett's The Pillars of Earth

These days, it is far more common for a movie to be based on a video game than the other way around, and games based on books are seen seldom enough to make it notable when it happens. Ken Follett, a prolific writer who has sold more than 150,000,000 copies of his work, was very successful with a collection of spy/intrigue novels. It was a surprise, therefore, when he wrote The Pillars of the Earth in 1989. In a stunning break from his norm, Pillars was a novel about building a cathedral in a small English village during the Middle Ages. According to Wikipedia, "it received rave reviews and was on the New York Times best-seller list for 18 weeks. It also topped best-seller lists in Canada, Britain and Italy, and was on the German best-seller list for six years. It has sold 18 million copies so far."

With a lineage like that, and the proven ability of Daedalic to capture the essence of a story and bake it into a good game, this one should be a winner.
