October is officially here! This is going to be an absolutely insane month with releases as you will see very shortly. This week picks up very quickly a couple of notable releases plus new batches of free games on both console subscription services.

Have you ever wanted to run your own crime family? Mafia III will allow you to do just that on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. You’ll be starting up your own crime ring in a fictional New Orleans known as New Bordeaux. While you will start with a small gang of thugs, the end-game has you fleshing out a complete criminal organization meant to rival the Italian mob. The game is set back in 1968, so you can expect some pretty controversial topics such as racism to be tackled on top of the mature content already featured in games such as this.

Nintendo fans are getting a new Mario adventure on the Wii U with Paper Mario: Color Splash. This isn’t your traditional Mario-platformer. The Paper Mario series has its roots in t he RPG genre, although it has lost a bit of that throughout the years. Now it is more of an action and adventure game with a unique perspective that has a majority of the world and characters being made out of flat, pieces of paper. Paper Mario and his friends have to investigate why the land of Prism Island is losing all of its colors. Players will have to seek out the 6 Big Paint Stars to restore color to the land and bring things back to normal.

While not officially launching this week, we would be doing a major disservice if we didn’t mention the launch of Gears of War 4. The game officially launches on the PC and Xbox One next week, on October 11, but those who have pre-purchased the game’s Ultimate Edition will be getting early access this coming Friday. We will dig a little deeper into the game in next week’s edition of Now Loading and you can expect our review of the game very, very soon.

Also, don’t forget to check both the PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection and Xbox Live’s Games with Gold offerings this week as both will be updated. A new month means new free games to add to your collection(s).
