Punch Out, as it was meant to be played...

RipTen highlighted a video they found on the net last night that shows another hack for Microsoft’s Kinect which pleased me to no end: Kinect support in the original Mike Tyson’s Punch Out.

As you can see in the video below, courtesy of Youtube user EatsTooMuchJam, the game works almost perfectly with the motion controller / camera. The project is called RetroKinect and aims to adapt motion controls to many classic games on retro emulators. I am not sure how well it would work with other games, but the Punch Out integration looks phenomenal. During the narration of the video, the creator cites issues that eventually arise due to the lag in the Kinect’s detection. Due to this lag, the game becomes almost unplayable at a point as you have to have split second reflex actions with many of the later fighters in the game.
