PlayStation 3 locks up on purpose, says Sony rep

This story from Destructoid really had my head scratching. When a Sony rep was asked about why the console kept freezing, his reply was that it was intentionally done that way so people don't play it too long. Wha? Really? So you really want to program in a hardware failure for a $600 product so that people don't stand there too long to play? You mean doing something like having the demos time out with a nice "Thanks for trying out the PlayStation 3." wasn't a better way to get people to stop playing? I'm waiting on the new Sony TVs in the stores to have a picture lock up after an amount of time so I don't stand there and stare at it's awesomely clear picture too long.
