Gamers doing good: League of Legends players raise over $160,000 for Japanese disaster victims

Riot Games, award-winning publisher and developer of League of Legends, announced today that player have raised over $160,000 for victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan.  

From March 21 to March 27, 100% of the proceeds from the champion of Akali and the Nurse Akali skins were donated by Riot to the American Red Cross.  Over 50,000 League of Legends players contributed to the relief effort.  

Good work all around and it's nice to see gamers and gaming companies doing real good in the world.

League of Legends, for those that don't know, was Riot Games' debut title and celebrated it first anniversary on October 27, 2010.  Millions of player in Europe and North American have downloaded the game and engaged in session-based multiplayer battles against rival teams.

LOS ANGELES – The 5thof April 2011– Riot Games, the award-winning online game developer and publisher, today announced that League of Legends players have raised over $160.000 for victims of the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan. From March 21 to March 27, Riot committed 100% of proceeds from the champion Akali and the Nurse Akali skin to the American Red Cross, and over 50.000 members of the League of Legends community came together to contribute to the relief effort. Donations benefited the Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami fund.
