Free-to-play Friday is a weekly series that showcases some of the best and most interesting free-to-play games currently available for everyone to try. Did we miss a favorite free-to-play game of yours? Post your favorites in the comments and we'll be sure to give it a try for ourselves.

This week's edition of Free-to-Play Friday showcases the online hunting simulator The Hunter (also known as theHunter) from developer Expansive Worlds, which is a subsidiary of Avalanche Studios. The Hunter is unique in that it is a free-to-play game that focuses on the entire hunting experience from tracking animals to ultimately the final, deadly shot. From utilizing animal lures to locating their tracks in the wilderness, players must have both patience and endurance to complete hunts. The Hunter stands out among other free-to-play games with not only its unique setting and gameplay, but as well as its focus on a more slower and rewarding process.

Without a premium subscription, players are initially limited to a small island for hunting, only a couple starting lodges, and a single hunting license. Players can purchase monthly membership bundles that allow for exploring the entire landscape in addition to availability of all hunting licenses. Speaking of the game's landscape and world, it is both highly-detailed and massive. Fortunately, players have a trusty GPS system that can aid in lengthy hunts through the dense forests and trails. Similar to Battlefield 3 on PC, players launch the game through their web browser by selecting a particular starting lodge and type of hunt. Multiplayer is available in the game, but unfortunately only to players that purchase a premium subscription.

Other features include an equipment store with a wide range of weapons from rifles to crossbows, clothing, animal lures, scopes, tree stands, and even tents. Players can also participate in hunting competitions and compete against friends on leaderboards. While ultimately the gameplay is free-to-play, those looking to utilize the majority of gameplay features will need to purchase a premium subscription. Yet, beginning hunters should give the game a try before deciding on a premium subscription.

The Hunter is available now through the official website.
