The following video which gives much insight into the foley process of creating the sounds for Batman: Arkham City. I've always found foley documentaries to be hilarious. It's so funny to find out the completely mundane and often ridiculous ways in which sound effect for movies and videogames are created.

Batman: Arkham City Game of the Year Edition is set for release on May 29th.

Anyway, Crysis 3 returns to New York City where we find original protagonist Prophet battling Ceph remnants and probably more evil corporate security forces in the seven Liberty Dome environments. Combat will revolve around Prophet's new high-tech composite bow and an upgraded Nanosuit. Count on Crysis 3 being one of the most anticipated shooters of 2013.
The release of Metro: Last Light has been pushed back to the first quarter of next year for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and Windows PC. Controversial indie game Dear Esther (or is it a walking tour, I'm not sure which?) is half off, going for $4.99. If you're in the mood for something a little more traditional, the tower defense classic Plants vs. Zombies is 75% off, or a measly $2.49. Considering the amount of gameplay you can get out of Plants vs. Zombies, that's quite a steal.
Known as the Mammoth May update, the upgrade ups the level cap by 20 levels and adds a new marketplace so players can trade loot.

But that's just the beginning. The update also adds four new areas to the game, new mounts, and an assortment of smaller rewards and upgrades that are unlocked as your character reaches the new levels. It's nice to see an independent developer throw their heart and soul into a free-to-play browser RTS like this.

"Tera Day 3. Still on the Island of Dawn. So many people need help, but if it means finding out Elleon's fate, I'll do what I can. The inhabitants of this island seem to be entirely friendly. Even the strange creatures I come across just kind of stare at me until I move away unless provoked." (insert National Geographic theme)

Seriuosly, I'm still questing in the Island of Dawn and have been all around it, and no enemies are hostile when you get near them, only when provoked. To compare once again to World of Warcraft, unless you actually sit and grind for a bit, you're likely leaving the starting area at about level 4 or 5, hitting your first inn in the next area, and then moving on to hostile creatures. Here, I'm about halfway to level 13 and I've only had one group of enemies hostile towards me, it was a specific creature I had to defeat for a quest, and I think the "hostile" part was a fluke. I was gathering loot that one of them dropped and they respawned around me and attacked me.

That is one good thing I like. If you need to kill a specific monster for a quest, they respawn pretty quickly (I'd say within twenty seconds it seems). However, I have discovered a new annoyance. When your quests are listed on the side and on the mini-map, a symbol appears next to the quest to let you know its status: a star means it's ready to turn in to complete the quest chain, a question mark means it's ready to turn in to move to the next quest in the chain, and no symbol means it's still in progress. Problem is, these symbols can also show up on the mini-map to show you where to turn them in, and the symbols by the quest explanations on the right will overlap the mini-map, so sometimes I think I'm heading to where I need to turn in the quest, only to realize I'm heading towards the symbol next to the quest explanation, if that makes any sense.

I did find out though that while the game said to use a controller it had to be a PS3 or Xbox 360 controller, that's not quite true. I had my Logitech PC controller plugged in and out of curiosity gave it a shot. It works, so I'll be likely trying my next session with that to see how it feels, but I'll likely use a mouse and keyboard for the most part.

Goldeneye: Reloaded blasts its way onto the Playstation Network

by: Nathan Carter
NEWS - Bond is back... again... for like the millionth time it seems as Goldeneye Reloaded is available for download on the Playstation Network for $59.99.

For those who don't own a Wii or missed out on that version should consider picking up this re-enhanced version of the game. I played Goldeneye Reloaded when it first came out and was surprised at how great of a game it actually was. Don't worry, this is NOT a horrible cash in on the Goldeneye name like Goldeneye Rouge Agent. Its a remake of the classic Goldeneye movie. If you love James Bond games or James Bond in general you shouldn't miss out on this game.

I do have a question though. Why is this full priced if its a downloadable title? The $60 price tag for games and especially downloadable games needs to be done away with next generation.

Hulick describes the reasoning behind his excitement for the project, "The music of Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II was a huge inspiration for me as a composer who was just venturing forth into the world of writing music for games. The music composed by Hulick will be incorporated with new gameplay content, in addition to the games' original soundtracks.
The second “new” product is the Special Edition Switch 810, which is an update to their Hybrid full tower Switch 810. The biggest update is that the community has spoken, and they want colors other than the white that was unveiled at the 2012 CES. So the Special Edition will be made available yesterday in both gun metal Gray and Matte Black, both available for $179. I was very impressed with the Switch 810 while viewing the white version at CES, so having the choice of three colors should make any gamer happy. Check out the video of the Switch 810 below, as well as some images of the Cryo E40 and Switch 810 I took at CES.
The shoot 'em up, or "shump" as all the cool kids say, is one of the oldest genres of videogame out there with roots stretching all the way back to the arcade classic Defender. And for me, Defender was the last shump I was any good at. Even this Akai Katana tutorial video is enough to make my nose bleed and send me under my desk to hide from all the colors.
Recon, armored, air, and ground units showcase their abilities in the trailer, with their preferred enemy type for battle encounters. While watching the trailer, I thought back to my childhood days of playing with various Micro Machines toys.

Back on topic, gamers can now sign-up for the End of Nations beta while waiting for the game's launch this year.

At its very best, the FIFA series can be almost as exciting to play, and EA Sports has unveiled today a set of game-changing innovations that hopefully can make FIFA 13 that exciting more often.

The first big one is a revamped dribbling system inspired by the miniature magician himself, Lionel Messi. Complete Dribbling will enable players to break down defenders with full 360 degree control over your movements with the ball.

The second big one is a new sophisticated artificial intelligence that should allow AI players to respond to ever changing game conditions more realistically.

So hopefully that means the days where your teammate ignores the defender that just stole the ball and makes a run down the wing like he didn't see it are over. Actually, that's not nearly as big an issue as AI players that won't mark, challenge, and have the awful tendency to run away from the player with the ball when he enters the box. If they fix that, I'll be happy. Oh, also, they need to fix the fact that defenders read your button inputs to execute perfect offside traps, can challenge with impunity since the ref never calls fouls on them, and attackers can psychically dodge any challenge.

Yeah, I don't want too much. To read the rest of the changes, follow the jump. FIFA 13 will be out this fall for every piece of electronic equipment you can play a videogame on - literally.

WoW (that's World of Warplanes) dev diary

by: Nathaniel Cohen
NEWS - In this video, you learn about the three very different classes of warplane seen in World of Warplanes: fighters, heavy fighters, and ground attack aircraft. Fighter are good against other fighters, heavy fighters can take more of a beating than a standard fighter which makes them the aircraft of choice to take out larger target, and ground attack aircraft are great for hitting ground installations and armor columns.

The maps you see on screen can tend to slightly clutter things up, but not that badly. You have your standard "radar" in the far upper right, and a larger mini-map that you can toggle off and on. If you've played Diablo II, it's kind of like the map you can have constantly on screen that shows your current area, only with Tera it's a lot smaller and shows the entire area you're in, plus you can track plants, minerals, quests, story quests, and monsters. It's especially helpful when it shows you monsters that are part of your quests. I just wish I realized that instead of wasting an hour tracking down one monster that I couldn't find.

The big thing to get used to is how to attack. You can assign skills and spells to the number and "F" buttons like in WoW, but attacking is a bit different. Instead of clicking a monster to target it, you use the mouse to move the reticle over an enemy, then hit one of the shortcut buttons to attack it (I have the left mouse button set to Fireball II and the right mouse button to Flame Pillar). It's not bad once you get used to it, but it's getting used to it that's taking me time to...well, get used to it.

That about ends this journal. I hit level 7 and am about halfway to level 8. So far, it's not that bad and reminds me of WoW a bit. I might play some more tonight, and if anything new develops, I'll post a Journal 2.5.

Max Payne 3 arcade modes revealed

by: Travis Huinker
NEWS - Rockstar Games has unveiled that Max Payne 3 will have two bonus arcade modes for single-player with Score Attack and New York Minute. These modes offer gamers with challenges that will put their bullet time skills to the test. High scores in both modes can unlock rewards for exclusive multiplayer avatars and XP bonuses. In the Score Attack mode, gamers can replay previously finished single-player levels to acquire points for a high score. The New York Minute mode returns from Max Payne and Max Payne 2 that challenges gamers with surviving a timer of one minute, with each enemy kill adding more time to the clock. Visit the official Max Payne 3 website for further details on the arcade modes.

Max Payne 3 will be available on May 15 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with the Windows PC version releasing later on May 29.
Sony reveals Inafune-san’s latest creation

by: Jeremy Duff
NEWS - Fans around the world have been anxiously waiting to see what Keiji Inafune had up his sleeve since departing Capcom back in 2010. Well, wait no more; the veil has been lifted on Inafune’s project and it is Soul Sacrifice for Sony’s Playstation Vita! The game was recently revealed in Japan via Famitsu magazine.

Soul Sacrifice is the result of a collaboration between sony Studio Japan, Marvelous, and Inafune. The game pits players inside of a book that is actually a demon; throughout the game you will relive the various battles and events that transpire within the pages of the book, all in an attempt to free yourself. As a magical being, the book will grant you additional abilities and powers... but only for a price. If you want something, you are going to have to give something, and by “something” we means parts of your body. You will need to sacrifice physical parts of your own being in order to acquire greater power and abilities.

The game will also feature cooperative multiplayer for up to 4 players. These details are a bit sketchy at the moment, as they are all coming from a variety of translations from the recent Japanese reveal. Knowing Inafune-san’s vision of gaming and his beliefs, it is a no-brainer that the game should be heading stateside some time in the future, as he would have it no other way. In the mean time, check out a variety of art, images and the reveal trailer for the game below and see just how twisted the world of Soul Sacrifice can be:

So if you're like me and love story-driven WRPGs, and was thrilled to see CD Projekt RED enter the console market to compete with BioWare, then you now have something to do besides dream of a sequel to Jade Empire.
Sure enough, less than 6 months after the original release, Andriasang has news that Japan is getting a new variation in the form of the Crystal White PlayStation Vita.

Aside from the outside color, nothing is changing about the system. I will admit though, the new hue looks absolutely gorgeous and given the choice between the two, I would go with white. The color will be available for both the Wifi and 3G models in Japan beginning on June 28. No announcement have been made about a release in other regions... yet.

Grapple, punch, and slice your way to the top in Sleeping Dogs

by: Travis Huinker
NEWS - The most recent video in the series of gameplay highlights for Square Enix's and United Front Games' upcoming open world action game, Sleeping Dogs, showcases an assortment of brutal combat encounters.
