Check out an hour of footage from Evolve, the new co-op shooter from the team behind Left 4 Dead

by: Chuck - - Add a Comment

I will admit to being a bit skeptical about Evolve when Turtle Rock released the first bit of footage from the game but the trailer below has sold me a bit on the game.

The interactive trailer (you can click on the buttons at the bottom of the video to navigate between the five different players as well as a solid commentary track) gives you a good idea of how the early stages of a game play out.  The hunters try and go for the quick kill while the creature has to try to avoid contact and level up.

I was impressed with how balanced the tracking in the game scenes as I was originally concerned about how the creature could be tracked in the jungles of the game. Also impressive was the variations between the classes and the tactics that players will be able to employ in the game.  This is definitely one game that will be on my list to check out at E3 in a few weeks.

Nintendo Download for 4/24/2014: Time to Remix it up

by: Russell - - Add a Comment

Hot off the heels of last week's Nintendo Download that saw Super Mario Bros. 3 come to the Virtual Console is...not as awesome but still fun nonetheless, at least where the Virtual Console is concerned.  The Wii U's VC saw the arrival of Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 from the Game Boy Advance...which is kind of strange as they could have also released the Super NES version, but still it's a fun game either way.

The Wii U also saw the release of NES Remix 2, the sequel to the original with better games (in my humble opinion) such as Super Mario Bros. 2 and 3, Metroid, Kid Icarus, Zelda II: Adventure of Link, and Kirby's Adventure.  Plus if you also own the original NES Remix you can access a special Championship Mode based off of the 1990 Nintendo World Championships NES cart.  Finally, you can check out a trailer for Child of Light which releases on April 29th.

Over on the 3DS we have a demo for Mario Golf: World Tour as well as a trailer for Gardening Mama 2: Forest Friends which also releases April 29th.  Select games by Joindots will be on sale until 9am PT on May 8th including FunFair Party Games, Gardenscapes, Secret Agent Files: Miami and 3D MahJongg.

Witcher: House of Glass #2 is out now

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment

It's an exciting time to be a gamer and a fan of comic books.  Dark Horse Comics has seemingly made it their mission to put out a comic companion to as many game franchises out there and that's great.

I'd imagine that in this environment, a comic book companion to the Witcher franchise was a sort of an "of course" moment since it's already based on a series of novels and is also a pair of the some of the most thoughtful and mature RPGs that have been made.

So the Witcher: House of Glass #2 is out now.  You can watch the trailer below.  If you haven't checked it out, then you should go download the Dark Horse app on iOS and Android.  You should also go and check out the Dark Horse digital store online.

The new Skylanders game lets you trap and turn your enemies

by: John - - Add a Comment

Yesterday, Toys for Bob announced the next game in the Skylanders series. Skylanders: Trap Team, coming October 5th, will let you trap enemies and in turn, you'll be able to use them your team to fight with you.

Kaos is back to cause havoc as he unleashes a whole slew of villains onto the world of Skylands. Using these new trap crystals you can set on a brand new portal, you'll be able to capture these villains complete with the voice of the captured one coming from a speaker on the portal. Once captured, you can switch between the villain or the Skylander by pushing a button.

There will be over 40 different villains that you can trap with crystals that are spread across the same elements as those designated in the previous games. In the preview, you can see even a version of Kaos will be trappable by the player.

As for Skylanders, over 50 will be available which range from new versions of old characters to a handful of new Trap Masters for you to collect. No new swappable characters will be introduced, it seems, with Trap Team but, you can use characters from previous games in the new game.

So, it sounds like there's a nice new twist to the Skylanders gameplay. As mentioned earlier, the game will be due out on October 5th and it will be available on the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii, Wii U, and 3DS.

Multiplayer in Watch Dogs looks crazy good

by: John - - Add a Comment

Ubisoft has put forth a video showing about 9 minutes of Watch Dogs' multiplayer aspect. The game actually seamlessly connects the single player and multiplayer game in a fun way. You can see the various ways you can get into multiplayer with a friend or friends in the video.

I really love how your friends can appear as NPCs in your game and you can initiate a multiplayer game with them. You don't have to get into some other mode to do so and it's this smooth transition from single player to multiplayer and vice versa that has peaked my interest.

Both team and single player online portions are shown and each look fun in its own way. I'm really excited for this game to come out and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Meet Peggle 2's Fairy Master

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment

I spent a year around 2007 nursing a truly tragic Peggle addiction.  Luckily, I was able to kick that habit despite PopCap's ability to tickle all the important parts of the human brain.

I haven't yet given Peggle 2 a try because I'm just not eager to hop back on the multiball bus (that's the cool way to refer to a Peggle addiction).

If you are bolder (or, perhaps, weaker) than I am, maybe you have.  And if that's the case, then you should know that Peggle 2 has released new downloadable content including a new Peggle Master named Windy the Fairy.  The DLC comes with brand-new levels, trails, objectives, and costumes and will cost $1.99.  Peggle 2 is out now for the Xbox One and comes out on May 7th for the Xbox 360.

To learn more, find Peggle 2 on the web and Facebook, and PopCap Games on Twitter.

IGN has the first screenshot from the next Call of Duty game

by: John - - Add a Comment

This year's Call of Duty game is coming from the folks at Sledgehammer. This will be their first full fledged Call of Duty game and it's taken them three years to develop it.

IGN has the first screenshot from the game and from what the developers were saying, this is an actual in game screenshot. The model looks really, really detailed. You can see the small imperfections in the skin and the light reflecting off the various parts of the face.

If this is an actual in game model, then the visuals should be pretty stunning. The big question though is, how will the gameplay be.

Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games, and Treyarch are now on a three year cycle to produce Call of Duty games so let's hope the extra time does allow for some better games as the series is starting to get a bit stale for those who have played them for a while now.

Child of Light dev diaries: a living painting

by: Sean Colleli - - Add a Comment

Nintendo might have less than a clue about keeping solid retail titles in the pipeline for Wii U, but the console's digital library is surprisingly robust. Even big publishers like Ubisoft are recognizing the console's strength for downloadable titles, like their upcoming RPG Child of Light. Inspired by classic turn based RPGs of the 16-bit era, the game is styled like a living watercolor. It's nice to see that Ubi hasn't completely abandoned Wii U, as I'm most excited to play Child of Light and future projects from UbiArt on Nintendo's home console.

Alien Isolation is a world where technology won't save you

by: Sean Colleli - - Add a Comment

Creative Assembly keeps making me more confident about Alien: Isolation. They really seem to get what made Ridley Scott's 1979 film so terrifying: it wasn't about inexplicably stupid scientists making dumb decisions with trillions of dollars of technology, as in Prometheus. Rather, it was about a group of terrified space truckers, doing the best they could with the crappy tech they had on hand, making all the right decisions and still getting killed by the alien, which is precisely what made the movie scary.

Case in point: Creative Assembly is doing their best to reverse-engineer the work of Ron Cobb, the legendary concept artist who designed the look of both Scott's Alien and Cameron's sequel, Aliens. This very analog, push-button future Cobb created looked like it could actually exist and work, and Creative Assembly has taken that to heart in building their game. But once again, all of the tech in the world, advanced or 1970s clunky, won't save you from a literal force of nature like the xenomorph. This is something Aliens: Colonial Marines missed completely, so I still have high hopes for Isolation.

Behold the first look at Dragon Age: Inquisition coming to you October 7th

by: John - - Add a Comment

Yesterday the box art for Dragon Age: Inquisition popped up for everyone to see. Today, a new trailer is up with some gameplay footage for people to drool over.

Yes, the game does look absolutely stunning. It's running on the Frostbite 2 engine, which powers games like Battlefield 4. I was thoroughly surprised at how good the footage looks. The third person action looks amazing and some of the scenery is really well done.

There's plenty of action with dragons in the trailer and you get to see the Inquisition leaders as well. All told, the trailer does a great job at showing the power of the Frostbite 2 engine and how it's making Inquisition such a visually impressive game.

Dragon Age: Inquisition will be released on the PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4 on October 7th.

BioWare's next will be the third game in the series, Dragon Age: Inquisition. Looking to bounce back from the lackluster second game, BioWare is really trying to make the third game stand out. Decisions should have a greater impact on the game and the world will be bigger for players to explore.

Today, the box art for the game has been revealed. Dragon Age III will be coming out for most platforms this fall after a year delay.

Microsoft's sold-in numbers of the Xbox One now at over 5 million -Update-

by: John - - Add a Comment

Yesterday, Microsoft announced that since the launch of the Xbox One, over 5 million consoles have been shipped to retailers. That's pretty good and are over what the Xbox 360 has done in the same time frame by more than 60%.

Microsoft's console also had the top selling game of last month with Titanfall. The game, which is out on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360, has garnered some solid reviews. It wasn't enough to push the hardware sales in North America to first place, but it was still a solid release.

Overall, Microsoft had a good month with both the Xbox One selling about 311,000 units with some Xbox 360's moving as well. We'll have to see what Microsoft has in store for E3 to try and really push the console this coming year.

-Update- Corrected to say shipped to retailers, not sold to customers as stated by Microsoft's wording of sold-in

Read about the development and drama that went into Titanfall

by: John - - Add a Comment

Geoff Keighley has produced another piece on the development of a highly touted video game. The Final Hours of Titanfall is a look at behind the scenes on what it took to get Titanfall out and all the pitfalls along the way the team experienced.

You'll get some more story on why one of the co-founders of Respawn Entertainment, Jason West, left the company. While the official word was for family reasons, the lawsuit brought forth by Activision and how it affected his relationship with the rest of the team was a big factor in his decision to leave.

Also, the game was almost cancelled because Respawn ran out of money. It took Microsoft to come in to save the game from extinction.

There's plenty more and you can pick it up for the iPad, PC/Mac, or a native Windows 8 app for $1.99. You can also check out Chuck's review of the game.

Pepsi augments reality, throws meteors, aliens, and attacking robots at bus commuters

by: Randy - - Add a Comment

If you'll pardon the shameless Pepsi Max plug, this is actually pretty cool. Pepsi took a busy London bus stop, installed a screen and a camera, then injected some augmented reality into a few pleasantly surprised commuters' lives. I think the dodgy tiger would've absobloodylootely made me get my knickers in a twist and take off down the motorway in my trainers, as they might say in the U.K.
