RUMOR: Could Sony be implementing cloud gaming? Announce at E3?

by: John - - Add a Comment
OnLive and Gaikai are two pretty good cloud gaming services and one could be heading its way to your Sony hardware. VG247 is reporting that Sony will make an announcement at E3 about one of the two striking a deal with the home of the PlayStation.

As a user of OnLive on my Android tablet, it's a pretty solid service that allows you to play some great games without having to spend the money on the hardware of say, updating a PC. It's not nearly as nice looking as it would if it was running natively, but for those that want to game on the go or want to save a few bucks, it's a pretty viable option.

Having OnLive or Gaikai available to those who are using a PlayStation 3, Vita, or even a Sony TV would be pretty nice. The question is though, what are the details and if there would be any savings at all if this deal be in place.

Combat has a certain rhythm

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment
In Zen Studios's (Pinball FX2) new fighter, KickBeat, you must find that rhythm to succeed.  That's because KickBeat is the the Guitar Hero of face punching.  KickBeat is an experimental rhythm game with fully 3-D fighters that combines beat-matching with martial arts to become a brand new kind of fighting game.

To learn more, watch the video, then follow the jump.  KickBeat is set for release on the PS Vita this summer.

by: Jeremy - - Add a Comment
Wow, here are some words that I never that I never thought I would type: developer diary for Foosball (2012). Yes, Foosball... Foosball 2012 to be exact, for the PlayStation 3 and Vita via the PlayStation Network.

The game, which is coming later this year, will be playable with the standard Dualshock 3 controller, but if you want to real-foosball experience, you are going to want to use the PlayStation Move. The first edition of the developer diary series for the game, which you can find below, details just how the PlayStation Move will deliver the most accurate experience. You can even use multiple Move wands to get the full experience.

LEGO Batman 2 gives us one less reason to bother with Arkham City

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment
One of the very best parts of Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham City is the fully explorable Gotham City.  Unfortunately, that has now been rendered irrelevant as long as you don't care too much that LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes's fully explorable city is, well, made from Legos.

LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes (or the ridiculously shortened-but-still-too-long LB2: DCSH) also features the full pantheon of DC super heroes (aka, the super heroes whose movies' bomb - except for you, Batman), vehicles, quests, and, of course, collectible LEGO blocks.  The kid inside of all of us just vomited with excitement.  Gross.

Lego Batman 2 pays homage to Batman: Arkham City

by: Russell - - Add a Comment
This summer, gamers can see a huge cast of DC Comics characters returning in Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes.  In the meantime however, Warner Bros. Interactice has put out some renders of Catwoman, Joker, and Robin, but with a twist.  Ever wonder what Batman: Arkham City would look like in the world of Lego?

FIFA 13 is set to change the game

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment
Anyone who was lucky enough to watch Manchester City's stunning last second victory to secure their first Premier League championship in 44 years knows just how exciting soccer can be.  I'll even dare to say that you'd be hard pressed to find any American sporting event this year that could match it.

At its very best, the FIFA series can be almost as exciting to play, and EA Sports has unveiled today a set of game-changing innovations that hopefully can make FIFA 13 that exciting more often.

The first big one is a revamped dribbling system inspired by the miniature magician himself, Lionel Messi.  Complete Dribbling will enable players to break down defenders with full 360 degree control over your movements with the ball.

The second big one is a new sophisticated artificial intelligence that should allow AI players to respond to ever changing game conditions more realistically.

So hopefully that means the days where your teammate ignores the defender that just stole the ball and makes a run down the wing like he didn't see it are over.  Actually, that's not nearly as big an issue as AI players that won't mark, challenge, and have the awful tendency to run away from the player with the ball when he enters the box.  If they fix that, I'll be happy.  Oh, also, they need to fix the fact that defenders read your button inputs to execute perfect offside traps, can challenge with impunity since the ref never calls fouls on them, and attackers can psychically dodge any challenge.

Yeah, I don't want too much.  To read the rest of the changes, follow the jump.  FIFA 13 will be out this fall for every piece of electronic equipment you can play a videogame on - literally. [READ MORE]

Sony reveals Inafune-san’s latest creation

by: Jeremy - - Add a Comment
Fans around the world have been anxiously waiting to see what Keiji Inafune had up his sleeve since departing Capcom back in 2010. Well, wait no more; the veil has been lifted on Inafune’s project and it is Soul Sacrifice for Sony’s Playstation Vita! The game was recently revealed in Japan via Famitsu magazine.

Soul Sacrifice is the result of a collaboration between sony Studio Japan, Marvelous, and Inafune. The game pits players inside of a book that is actually a demon; throughout the game you will relive the various battles and events that transpire within the pages of the book, all in an attempt to free yourself. As a magical being, the book will grant you additional abilities and powers... but only for a price. If you want something, you are going to have to give something, and by “something” we means parts of your body. You will need to sacrifice physical parts of your own being in order to acquire greater power and abilities.

The game will also feature cooperative multiplayer for up to 4 players. These details are a bit sketchy at the moment, as they are all coming from a variety of translations from the recent Japanese reveal. Knowing Inafune-san’s vision of gaming and his beliefs, it is a no-brainer that the game should be heading stateside some time in the future, as he would have it no other way. In the mean time, check out a variety of art, images and the reveal trailer for the game below and see just how twisted the world of Soul Sacrifice can be:

Let the Vita variations begin!

by: Jeremy - - Add a Comment
We all knew that it was only a matter of time before Sony started making (minor) alterations to their recently released handheld. Sure enough, less than 6 months after the original release, Andriasang has news that Japan is getting a new variation in the form of the Crystal White PlayStation Vita.

Aside from the outside color, nothing is changing about the system. I will admit though, the new hue looks absolutely gorgeous and given the choice between the two, I would go with white. The color will be available for both the Wifi and 3G models in Japan beginning on June 28. No announcement have been made about a release in other regions... yet.

Composers Jason Graves and Kevin Riepl joined forces to create an original score for the upcoming PlayStation Vita game, Resistance: Burning Skies. The game, which is being developed by Nihilistic Software, will be the first appearance of a first-person-shooter on the new handheld system. The narrative of Burning Skies takes place between the events of Resistance 2 and Resistance 3, with protagonist Tom Riley battling through waves of Chimeran.

Previous experience for the composers include Jason Graves scoring music for Dead Space and Dead Space 2 and Kevin Riepl providing music for Gears of War. Resistance: Burning Skies for PlayStation Vita will be available on May 29. [READ MORE]

*witty pinball-themed The Avengers reference*

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment
I don't know that much about The Avengers.  I haven't seen the movie, read the comics, and I associate the name Stark with the King in the North and direwolves instead of playboys zooming around in powered armor (although I do like to pretend that Tony Stark is a distant descendant of House Stark of Westeros).

My only exposure to Thor, and the Hulk were more traumatic than anything else.  I reviewed that awful Thor game for the Wii that accompanied the movie, and when I was little the old The Incredible Hulk starring Bill Bixby scared the bejesus out of me.

To round things out, I haven't seen Captain America and I don't even know who Jeremy Renner and ScarJo are supposed to be playing.  Google says their names are Hawkeye and Black Widow but doesn't tell me what their superpowers are (Ok, well I know what Black Widow's super power must be, but this is a family-friendly site so I'll keep it to myself).

That brings me to Marvel's The Avengers that will be part of Marvel Pinball: Avengers Chronicles, the new four-table pack for Pinball FX2.  I think if you've spent any time with Pinball FX 2, you know what to expect, but if not, here's a trailer and some screenshots that ought to get you squared away.

Persona 4 Golden coming to the Vita

by: Mike - - Add a Comment
RPG Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 is being remastered for the Playstation Vita, and will be released this fall. The visuals for Persona 4 looked great on the PS2, so I can't wait to see how it looks on the Vita's OLED screen.

New content will be included in Persona 4 Golden, consisting of new Personas to rank up, new cutscenes, a new character, and a new song from composer Shoji Meguro. All of this combined with the Vita's specs could make the new version much better than the original.

Check out screenshots of the game below.

Mortal Kombat: Mileena live action trailer

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment
Available May 1st, Mortal Kombat for the PS Vita has decided to once again show you how strange you'll act in public should you choose to take Mortal Kombat to the beach, railroad tracks, a sewage treatment plant, a field, the edge of a high rise building, or a public sidewalk.
Furthermore, they apparently want to make sure you're aware that it's not just sinkholes you have to worry about walking into while you play Mortal Kombat.  You can also accidentally walk out into the ocean, a vat of sewage, off of a building, or get hit by a train.  At the very least you'll ruin your PS Vita.  Or maybe you can find a shark, mutant sewage monster, or laid-off train conductor to play with.  I'm sure they'll love Mortal Kombat.

Beatshapers and Orb Games are bringing their fast paced action game StarDrone to the PlayStation Vita this week. StarDrone Extreme will be available on the PlayStation Store tomorrow for $3.99.

The new version of the game is an update to last year’s release, which I found to be an adequate action game. The Vita version will feature revamped versions of all of the PS3 levels, all new Vita exclusive levels, as well as the ability to transfer your progress between the two versions.

Now Loading for the week of April 15, 2012: Wicked Witcher of the West Edition

by: Jeremy - - Add a Comment
While it isn’t the busiest week in terms of new releases this week, it is one that is going to make a lot of noise. Thanks to the release of the Enhanced Edition of Witcher 2, the highly acclaimed Witcher series is finally making its way to consoles. The porting of a traditionally PC series to the home consoles has always been met with criticism, although this one appears to set the standard for the transition. Perhaps CD Projekt is setting the stage for a new generation of PC-to-console ports.

PS Vita Mortal Kombat kills with a live action trailer

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment
Mortal Kombat for the PS Vita will transport you to whatever realm Mortal Kombat takes place in (Seriously, does anyone know what it's called?), and it will also allow you to seek out and challenge other Kombatants on the go.  With the game set to hit on May 1st, it's important that everyone out there knows just how creepy you might look playing Mortal Kombat in a crowded public square.

In the following live action trailer, some poor woman is possessed by the digital spirit of Kitana who uses her body to put on an elaborate series of poses while every pedestrian caught in her radius desperately tries to not make eye contract.
