Naughty Dog and Wargaming team-up is decidedly un-naughty

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment

When was the last time you spent 24 straight hours gaming?  When it was over, did you feel good about yourself?  I've never done it, but I'd imagine that gaming for that long might leave one feeling something akin to one of those mornings where you tell yourself, "I am NEVER doing that again!" right before you projectile vomit near your nearest toilet.'

What Naughty Dog, Wargaming.net, Rooster Teeth, and Astro Gaming are putting together should at least leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling that hugs the pain away.  You see, Operation Supply Drop is holding their third annual fundraising event that raises money to send videogame care packages to our soldiers overseas in combat and in hospitals recovering from combat.

You can follow the jump to learn more.  Visit www.operationsupplydrop.org for details.  The event is being held during the 8-bit Salute on May 17-18, so you have a few months to build up you marathon-gaming skills.

Grab Soul Calibur V for super cheap

by: Jeremy - - Add a Comment

Let’s be honest: everyone loves a deal. Well, the Xbox Marketplace has a great one going right now. Namco’s excellent fighter, Soul Calibur 5 is on sale for a mere $3.74 if you are a Gold member of the Xbox Live service. Granted, the title is only $14.99 normally, which is a deal on it’s own, but this sort of deep discount is fantastic; that is just a few bucks for a fighting game that I really enjoyed when it launched back in early 2012.

Former devs talk about their proudest moment on their last project at Irrational Games

by: John - - Add a Comment

BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea - Episode Two is the last product coming out of Irrational Games as we know it. The studio is gone, but they got a few of their employees to talk about what they are most proud of in the DLC.

After the lackluster Episode One, I'm hoping Episode Two ties everything together. I really do want this DLC to bring a nice closure to the BioShock Infinite. It's a bittersweet video and you can see how much passion and energy the team brought to their final project.

There are some spoilers so be warned if you don't want to know a few things or haven't played the main game or previous DLC.

In the final trailer released before Dark Souls II hits stores tomorrow, we're reminded that we will die. A lot.

Now Loading for the week of 03/10/2014

Death becomes us all again this week as one of the hardest video game franchises in history comes back to torture gamers even more! Those who are into punishing their self will definitely want to check out Dark Souls II this week. Also, shooter fans might be interest in this little game known as Titanfall; I have heard a few people talking about it and there is a chance that it might be pretty popular among Xbox One fans (sense the sarcasm?).

  • Dark Souls II for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3
  • Fort Defense North Menace for Playstation Vita (via PSN)

More bugs gets introduced with the new Battlefield 4 patch

by: John - - Add a Comment

Battlefield 4 was patched up a few days ago and I popped into the game for the first time since then. What you see below is a few minutes into my first match since the patch and I've already ran into this bug a few times. It seems no matter what DICE does, they keep putting out patches that causes new issues.

For this one, you can see the person who killed me is highlighting a teammate of mine though the name is right on who really fired the kill shot. Oh, that 0HP bug is back again, which I thought was squashed previously. Sigh....

MXGP tutorial videos remind me of tried-and-true Excitebike riding techniques

by: Randy - - Add a Comment

Two tutorial videos for MXGP – The Official Motocross Videogame teach you the art of "scrubbing" and how to take on jumps and moguls more effectively.

But you remember playing Excitebike on the NES, right? Lean your weight back over the rear tire to maximize air time, or pull up your front tire in a wheelie to handle those little speedbump thingies. Well, that all works in MXGP. I, too, was surprised how much legit motocross I learned from Excitebike. Stupid overheat alarm. Why can't I go full throttle the entire time, Excitebike?

"Scrubbing," however, is new to me. It's a way of throwing your bike sideways while in a jump to minimize how long you spend in the air. Me, I don't want no scrub; a scrub is a guy that can't get no love from me. Why can't I just go full throttle the entire time, MXGP?

MXGP launches March 28 on PlayStation 3, PS Vita, Xbox 360, and PC.

New LEGO The Hobbit Trailer spoofs buddy-up heist flicks

by: Cary - - Add a Comment

The latest trailer for LEGO The Hobbit takes a humorous look at the team you'll have assembled to go on your quest. In true LEGO game fashion there are plenty of jokes goofing on each character's adventurer genre tropes as well as some plain old slapstick. Check out the trailer below and wonder with me what the Italian Job or Ocean's 11(or 12 or 13) might look like with Middle Earth casting.

Dark Souls II arrives on PC April 25th

by: Sam - - Add a Comment

After the original Dark Souls' PC debacle Bandai Namco wants to get it right this time with Dark Souls II's PC release. Yesterday they announced that the game is coming to PC via retail and Steam on April 25th. The PC version will be an enhanced port of the game, with higher texture resolution and frame rate options, and hopefully no mods needed to make it run properly. The PC version is available for pre-order on Steam right now for $49.99, and comes with a pre-order bonus CD, artbook, comic, and some in game weapons.

There is no way I am waiting an extra month to play Dark Souls II, but no doubt many PC fans are glad to hear the PC release is so close to the console this time around. No doubt it will be the definitive version of the game, but I prefer to have the game on my PS3 to complete my Souls collection.

Call of Duty Ghosts will release its second DLC pack on April 3rd

by: Nathan - - Add a Comment

More Call of Duty Ghosts content is an on the way, and as you would expect, Xbox gamers get it first. Sorry Playstation gamers, I think it's stupid also. Anyways, April 3rd will see the release of Devastation, the second of four DLC packs for Call of Duty Ghosts. Devastation will cost you $14.99 or will be free if you bought the seasons pass.

The Devastation DLC pack will launch with the following content. Four new Multiplayer maps, a new gun and a new episode for Extinction mode.

  • Ruins - Located on a Mexican peninsula and takes place in the remains of a Mayan Temple in the mountain tops. The Field Order Killstreak will allow players to trigger a volcanic explosion that will send fiery debris onto the battlefield, killing anyone in its path.
  • Collision - Takes place in the mangled debris of a container chip which has crashed into a New York bridge. It's a small map that is great for those who like to run and gun. The Field Order Killstreak will allow players to take control of a armed aircraft and rain down hell from above on unsuspecting enemies.
  • Behemoth - Takes place in the air on a giant excavation platform in South America. Pretty much, you are fighting on a gigantic saw. The Field Order Killstreak will allow you to take control of an attack helicopter armed with an armor-piercing Rail gun.
  • Unearthed - A reimagined version of "Dome" from Modern Warfare 3. This new version however contains a couple of secrets. The Field Order Killstreak will allow you to spawn aliens from Extinction mode to seek out and kill enemies. You can also unlock a secret alien weapon in the map as well. How do you unlock it? Infinity Ward isn't saying but I'm sure it won't be long before the community finds out.
  • The Ripper - a new 2-in-1 SMG/Assault Rifle that can be used in the Multiplayer maps. The gun can quickly switch from and SMG to an Assault Rifle on the fly which is deal for a variety of maps and tactics.
  • Extinction Episode 2: Mayday - The second episode of the Extinction saga takes place in the Alaskan wilderness at a research facility. Players will also come up against a new alien species referred to as the "Seeder" and go head-to-head against the 100-foot tall Kraken.

Watch Dogs comes out May 27th

by: John - - Add a Comment

Finally, we have a release date for Watch Dogs. The often delayed, highly anticipated title from Ubisoft will be on the store shelves May 27th, 2014. That's about two and a half months away.

Watch Dogs is hitting all of the current and previous gen platforms with the exception of the Wii and the Wii U version is delayed until who knows when. I wouldn't be surprised if the Wii U version gets cancelled outright, but hopefully they do make it for the Nintendo console.

Below is the story trailer for the game. We can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and as long as there are no more delays, (crosses fingers) we'll all be hacking with our cell phones come May 27th.

Titanfall goes 8-bit with Titans in these classic games

by: John - - Add a Comment

Titanfall is coming in a few short days, but Respawn Entertainment and Atari have brought us something really fun to play with until then.

Three classic arcade games: Asteroids, Missile Command, and Centipede, are getting some Titan action. Titanfall Arcade lets you play these three classics (currently only Asteroid is available), but with a Titan destroying the asteroids, missiles, and bugs.

Asteroids does take on a whole new experience with a Titan and having played this game a ton when I was a kid, it was great to relive some of the memories I had, albeit with a twist on the game. The other two games will hopefully be available soon to try it. If you got five minutes to kill, check it out.

2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil screenshots

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment

Football's national world championship tournament kicks off this summer in Brazil.  Lets just hope that when it's over, they don't decide to invade Argentina or something since that's the cool thing for host nations of twice-a-decade national sports competitions to do now.

No doubt, as we get closer to this summer's World Cup, we'll hear all about how it's football at it's best.  The problem is that it's not.  In the past, World Cup matches have been dull, low-scoring even for soccer, defensive-minded affairs because the top teams are so stacked with talent that one mistake means you've lost.

No doubt, that won't be a problem for EA Sports 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.  The average score of that game's virtual World Cup ought to be 5-4.  Furthermore, it's already won the competition for longest sports game title of the year.  Kudos, EAS2014FWCB

2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil is out this April.

Concept art of Boba Fett for Star Wars 1313

by: John - - Add a Comment

While Star Wars 1313 maybe dead right now, little bits of news pop out here and then on the game. It was to follow Boba Fett's early days in a very hostile area called Level 1313 in Coruscant. Alas, the game's now dead or in development hell with the sale of Star Wars to Disney and Disney shutting down LucasArts.

While we wait to see if another company does pick up the development of Star Wars 1313, here's a concept art of what Boba Fett would have worn. Interesting that he would be wearing his dead dad's helmet, but nevertheless, Boba looks pretty cool here.

A new challenger enters the arena! Marie Rose coming to Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate this month.

by: Nathan - - Add a Comment

Dead Or Alive 5 Ultimate already had a plethora of great fighters to choose from, but at the end of this month we are getting one more. Marie Rose, the Gothic Loli character who appeared in the Japanese Arcade version of the game, will be making her way to consoles on March 25th for PS3 and March 26th for 360.

No word yet if she will be free DLC or paid but I'm going to assume its going to be paid DLC. I believe that the individual characters you can buy for Dead Or Alive 5 Core Fighters are $4 a piece so I am gonna guess she will be around that same amount.

She will also debut on consoles with five costumes which can be purchased in a bundle. The costumes will range from a nurse, cheerleader, school uniform, gym class and Santa's helper. Pretty much costumes you would expect to see at any adult Halloween party you would go to. No word on prices but apparently there will be a set marked the "best value" where you can download Marie Rose and her costumes.

Team Ninja also released her debut trailer, which you can check out below.

Prepare for Titanfall (launch trailer)

by: Chuck - - Add a Comment

The wait for the Titanfall is almost over as the game will be in the hands of gamers this time next week.  To get folks amped up for the release, Respawn has released a launch trailer for the game which shows off a gaggle of new gameplay footage including new maps, new gadgets (check out that zipline), and what appears to be some elements of the multiplayer campaign (which is a set of linked modes according to this rumor on IGN).  I was pretty stoked about what I saw in the beta and I'm looking forward to giving the full game a run next week.

[UPDATE] The Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 2 launches March 4 on PlayStation 3 – Xbox 360 and iOS later

by: Randy - - Add a Comment

[UPDATE: According to this tweet from developer Telltale Games, launch dates for The Walking Dead Season Two – Episode Two is as follows: PC/Mac on March 4, Xbox 360 on March 5, and iOS on March 6.]

The Walking Dead Season One put players in binds, episode after episode, for an entire harrowing five-episode run.

Season Two is no joke either, with Episode One not exactly out to get laughs. Now, we've got a launch date for Episode Two: A House Divided — it's tomorrow, March 4 — while we wait for the usual Telltale Games song and dance for release dates on the other platforms.

It should be on Xbox 360 and iOS the following day, March 5, but I'm only guessing. I know Sony probably handed over a bagfull of cash to get a 24-hour jump on the competition, but let's just go ahead and have the release calendar nailed down for the public when there's only 48 hours to go, ok, Telltale Games? It was cute having these at-the-last-minute launch announcements during Season One, but ithis routine's gotten old. Same goes for The Wolf Among Us. You're not in danger of overhyping when you give me a one or two-week launch announcement. I'm capable of managing my own hype levels, thank you.
