Sony announces slimmer Vita

by: Chuck - - Add a Comment

Today Sony revealed the first new iteration of the Vita since it debuted almost two years ago.  The new Vita is thinner, lighter, and will feature a longer battery life.  The new unit will also come with a 1GB internal memory card which will delay the need to purchase a separate memory card a bit.

The unit will be available Spring 2014 as part of bundle with Borderlands 2 which will be a nice deal for those who want to play the small screen version of a game that was released two years ago.

I know it's easy to dump on the Vita but the system does sport a decent collection of games and Sony smartly allowed you to do some cool stuff with the device like Remote Play with the PlayStation 4.  I'm not sure that announcing a product this far ahead of time is the best idea as you're cannibalizing sales of the existing Vita.  Still it's a nice deal for those who want to add the device to their library.

Okay, so it's a tad late this week, but Thursday's eShop releases saw a couple of retail releases hit the eShops and the Virtual Console saw another awesome classic become available for download:

MXGP - The Official Motocross Videogame is straight-up dirty, releases March 28

by: Randy - - Add a Comment

Picture yourself in the Netherlands, on the Dutch track of Valkenswaard, watching a dude named Evgeny Bobryshev – a monster in the motocross scene – getting down and dirty on his Honda CRF450R in MXGP - The Official Motocross Videogame. The mud splatter and depth of field camerawork on this latest batch of screenshots look great, but it becomes even more apparent that developer Milestone isn't playing around with its motocross simulation once you see it in motion.

MXGP will be available on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and Xbox 360 on March 28.

EVO 2014 lineup has been revealed

by: Russell - - Add a Comment

If you're a fan of fighting games then you're probably looking forward to EVO 2014 which will take place from July 11th to the 13th in Las Vegas.  Tonight on iPlayWinner's The Fray! podcast the lineup for EVO 2014 was revealed.  The games featured will be:

  • Ultra Street Fighter IV
  • Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
  • Killer Instinct
  • Injustice: Gods Amond Us
  • King of Fighters XIII
  • BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma

In addition there will also be two special Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo events in honor of the game's twentieth anniversary* and talks are on going with Nintendo to have Smash Bros. as part of the event.  For those who saw last year's EVO and saw the live stream of Melee, it was a pretty awesome event.

For more info, check out the article over on shoryuken.com.

*While the article on Shoryuken states the SSF2T events are in honor of the game's tenth anniversary, the game came out in 1994, making this year the twentieth anniversary.  A simple typo I assume.

Hyper Crazy Climber coming to the PlayStation Network soon

by: Nathan - - Add a Comment

The original Crazy Climber, which was released in arcades back in the 80's, is one of my favorite videogames of all time. I spent many quarters at that machine at FunSpot and it's sad to me that the series hasn't really been seen or heard from that much in the states.

MonkeyPaw Games plans plans to change that as they plan on bringing Hyper Crazy Climber to the Playstation Network in Q1 2014. Hyper Crazy Climber was originally only released in Japan on the original Playstation and included new playable characters and more buildings to climb.

The game was originally planned to be fourth title in the Retro Rush event but some last minute legal issues caused the delay.

“We never want to hold back a game release, but in this case it was a necessary precaution,” said Ryan Olsen, PR Manager for MonkeyPaw Games. “We are working as fast as we can to clear up the last outstanding issues and bring this game to our fans.”

Hyper Crazy Climber will be available for PS3, PSP and PlayStation Vita for $5.99.

Personally, I cannot wait for this!

Wii U Indie Connection Sale going on right now!

by: Sean Colleli - - Add a Comment

The Wii U is in bad shape. Satoru Iwata has been sweating blood the past few weeks as he stood in front of displeased investors, and he even took a 50% pay cut. But all is not doom and gloom for the Wii U. From now until February 13th, five indie studios are coming together to support a sale and promote indie development on Wii U.

If you buy (or already own) one of the following indie games on the eShop--Spin the Bottle: Bumpie's Party, Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition, BIT.TRIP Presents... Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien, Toki Tori 2+, or Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams--you can buy one or all of the remaining four games at a 60% discount. The developers have also made short goofy videos to promote another studios' game.

I think this is awesome. Indies having goodwill enough to promote each others' games is great, but they also recognize how important it is to promote the Wii U as a fertile indie platform. To be honest, it's true; while big AAA publishers have been abandoning the Wii U en masse, smaller, riskier studios have been consistently positive about the console and how refreshingly welcoming Nintendo has been to indie developers. There are several indie projects--Shin'en's FAST Racing Neo being one of them--that have me just as excited as Smash Bros, X or DK Tropical Freeze.

You can check out a couple of the funny promo clips below, and see the rest after the jump. Two Tribes also has a blog post about it here.

by: Randy - - Add a Comment

Injustice: Gods Among Us reached 1 billion play sessions on mobile devices. Yes, that million with a b. That amounts to 100 million sessions a month since its April 2013 launch.

As a thank you, developer Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will hand out 30,000 free in-game power credits to each and everybody playing from now through the weekend. These credits are the currency necessary to unleash "awesome, over-the-top super moves."

The Injustice: Gods Among Us mobile version is free-to-play from the App Store on iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch, as well as on Google Play and Amazon Appstore for Android.

Conception II will be digital-only title in Europe

by: Randy - - Add a Comment

In addition to a North American release, "God's Gift" is also coming to the other side of the pond. Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars launches April 15 for Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita as a digital-only title in Europe.

Conception II is a role-playing game with turn-based battles and tricky social politics. You have to maintain good relationships with females so you can, you know, make "better, strong, faster" Star Children that will save the world.

Another week, another eShop release that doesn't feature my all-time favorite game Super Mario Bros. 3.  However, this week still has a couple of good releases to check out.

The Wolf Among Us - Episode 2 screens hint at outcomes from your decisions in Episode 1

by: Randy - - Add a Comment

After a significant and unintentional delayThe Wolf Among Us - Episode 2: Smoke and Mirrors is here next week. Thank goodness. I was afraid I'd have to huff and puff developer Telltale's doors down. These two screenshots hint at the direct results of decisions you made in Episode 1: Faith.

The first shows the ambiguously heroic Bigby Wolf scrapping with Beast (of Beauty and the Beast fame); what did you tell Beast about Beauty in the first episode?

The second looks like a good ol' interrogation scene with the suspect you caught at the end of Episode 1. Did you, like this screenshot shows, round up the Woodsman for questioning?

The Wolf Among Us is on PC, Mac, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and Xbox 360. Episode 2: Smoke and Mirrors is (over)due next week.

New Super League Football table announced by Zen Studios

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment

And by "football" we mean the hands-free kind.  It's also known as soccer here in the United States.

How appropriate that this announcement is made today of all days what with a half-slate of Barclays Premier League games on the docket, including the Merseyside Derby between Everton and Liverpool (go Everton!).  It's an odd occurrence for a Tuesday.

Anyway, Super League Football dresses your Zen Pinball 2 or Pinball FX 2 table in the clothes of the Beautiful Game.  If you have a favorite team, you can further customize the table that way.

You can find out more by watching the trailer and at blog.zenstudios.com.  And seriously, if you haven't given the Barclays Premier League the chance it deserves yet, then you're just being a stubborn sports fan.  It's the most popular sports league in the world for a reason, no matter what the NFL likes to pretend about itself.

When it's released, you'll find Super League Football available for Pinball FX 2 on Xbox Live, Steam, and Windows 8; meanwhile, it will be on Zen Pinball 2 for the PS3, PS4, Apple Store, Google Play, Kindle HD, and the Mac App Store.  It will also be a standalone app available on iTunes and Google Play.  The actual release date hasn't been announced yet.

Now take it to 'em ya Toffees!

Demo now available for Toukiden: The Age of Demons

by: Russell - - Add a Comment

Tecmo Koei America has recently announced the release of a demo for their upcoming PlayStation Vita game Toukiden: The Age of Demons.  While the game itself will be released on February 11th, 2014, the demo will introduce players to the game's first chapter and part of the second.  The demo will also include full access to character customization and all six weapon types and equipment upgrades.  In addition, players can take their demo progress over to the full version, including equipment, obtained weapons/armor/mitama, materials, story progress, and part of their Haku (in-game currency).  Sadly I don't have a Vita to experience the demo, but if you're looking forward to the game, give the demo a shot.

There's a violent two-faced bear in these Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc screenshots

by: Randy - - Add a Comment

Developer Spike Chunsoft released 14 screenshots for upcoming action-adventure, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc.

Okay, let's walk through this. First of all, danganronpa is a compound of the Japanese words "bullet" (dangan) and "refutation" (ronpa). Second, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, coming to the PlayStation Vita, is a revised and revamped re-release of the first Danganronpa game, Danganronpa: Academy of Hope and High School Students of Despair, originally released on PlayStation Portable in Japan in 2010 before porting over to Android and iOS devices in 2012. Third, there's a freaky two-faced bear somewhere in the mix.

In Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, the elitist High Hope's Academy high school is taken over by an apparently sadistic bear. Fifteen high school students, including protagonist Makoto Naegi, are essentially taken hostage by the aforementioned bear. To escape, the students must "graduate" from the high school. To graduate, they must kill one of the other high school students and – here's the kicker – get away with it as the surviving high school students investigate the murder. If the murderer is discovered, the murderer is executed. If the murderer gets away with it, then peace, they out.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc comes to the PlayStation Vita on February 11.

Mad Catz TRITTON Kama Stereo Headset for the PlayStation 4 and Vita now shipping

by: John - - Add a Comment

Mad Catz is now shipping their TRITTON Kama Stereo Headset branded specifically for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. This headset easily attaches to the PlayStation 4 controller or the Vita offering stereo sound along with a nice mic for voice chatter.

Since it uses the traditional 3.5mm plug, it can essentially plug into almost any audio device such as a MP3 player, tablet, or cell phone. Still, if you want something that looks like it's made for the PlayStation 4, the Kama is the headset for it. It's a no frills headset and comes with a nice inline remote for audio adjustment.

It retails for $29.99 so it's not an expensive headset by any means.
