Guitar Hero, Band Hero, and DJ Hero DLC will no longer be purchasable after March 31, 2014

by: John - - Add a Comment

Are you still playing Guitar HeroBand Hero, or DJ Hero games? Been holding off on buying some DLC? Well, you have until the end of this month to do so.

Guitar Hero's Facebook page has announced that all the DLCs will no longer be available after the end of this month. Servers will still be available and past purchases will still be accessible, but you won't be able to pick up any DLCs come April 1st.

If you are looking to round out your DLC library, some items will be up to 50% off so there's a nice deal to be had there.

I remember playing the first Guitar Hero on the PlayStation 2 and how captivated I was with the game even though I had no musical ability whatsoever. It was such a nice series early on. It has been a while since any new DLC came out for the these games so it was inevitable that we see things like this start to happen.

First trailer for FIFA 2014 World Cup is now available for viewing

by: Sean Cahill - - Add a Comment

We're just three months away from Brazil hosting the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the tournament to decide the world champion of association football.  EA Sports, having obtained the license for the World Cup, has released the first trailer for the officially licensed game FIFA 2014 World Cup.  While FIFA 14 actually includes the World Cup as part of both versions of career mode (Manager or Player), this is a standalone game that will feature new animations and build upon the modes that are already included in FIFA 14.  Check out the trailer below, and also be sure to make your way over to the official blog and site for the game, which can be found here.

Devolver Digital celebrates GDC with a huge indie games sale

by: Chuck - - Add a Comment

You have to give credit to the marketing folks at Devolver Digital as their sales page for their GDC sale is a riot as they feature quotes from the developers about their relationship with Devolver.  You'll gain keen insight into how Devolver works while saving a ton of money on games like Broforce, Shadow Warrior, Luftrausers, and Hotline Miami.

There are lots of good deals to be had, especially on Luftrausers and Shadow Warrior (a game that Sean and I both loved).  Here are a few of the quotes to get you started.

Let's kick some balls: 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil official gameplay trailer

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment

Posted to Twitter a little while ago, EA has gifted we lucky football fans with the official gameplay trailer for 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.

Bright lights, pop music, ball physics, and well-known players in the less than well-known kits belonging to their home nations.  I mean, how many people knew Wales as anything other than that "bulgy part of western Britain" before Gareth Bale?  Now we know what their national team kits looks like - and that they have their own national team!  Gareth Bale: the gift that keeps on giving.

Final character revealed for Ultra Street Fighter IV

by: Russell - - Add a Comment

Tonight saw the conclusion of Final Round 17 and after the Top 16 for Super Street Fighter IV: AE 2012 battled it out, Capcom finally revealed the fifth and final new character for Ultra Street Fighter IV: Decapre.

Decapre is one of Bison's "dolls", a group of sixteen-year-old girls who were captured and brainwashed by the Shadaloo into being M. Bison's assassins and bodyguards.  Each doll's name aside from Cammy's represented a different month, with Decapre being derived from the Russian word for December.  She basically resembles Cammy with a black mask and, like Vega, uses claws to attack.  A lot of her moves were shown to be similar to Cammy's, and one of her ultras resembles Dahlsim's Yoga Catastrophe ultra.  However, Decapre is a charge character, meaning most of her special moves have to be charged similar E. Honda or Vega.

Who needs luck of the Irish when you have the luck of the Zafords

by: Russell - - Add a Comment

Last year Borderlands 2 fans were treated to some new skins and an SMG around St. Patrick's Day from the Zaford Clan.  This year they've decided to once again take some time out of their busy schedule (which consists of drinking and then killing some Hodunks) to provide the skins and Chulainn SMG once again.

If you didn't get these items last year, here's another chance to snag them, plus you can also snag a new skin for Krieg, even if you redeemed the code last year.  The Chulainn SMG is a blue rarity Maliwan SMG with Slag and Shock elements and will be at the level of the first character you load up after entering the code, so don't do something crazy like load up a new level 1 character after entering the code...well, unless you have yet to play the game that is.  Of course with a new character you could just mow down anything in your path I suppose.  Keep in mind that these codes will only be active for a limited time.

The codes are as follows:

Xbox 360: K3C33-633S6-BKW56-56BBT-X9X9X

PSN gearing up for renting

by: John - - Add a Comment

In what could be a nice game changer, it looks like the PlayStation Network is going to be offering renting soon. Spotted by someone browsing the PlayStation store, there's a screen cap of the game Catherine with options to rent it 1 day, 10 days, or 30 days.

Right now, all of them said free because it's not implemented yet, but it looks like the infrastructure's getting into place. This would be a very nice addition to the PlayStation Store letting folks try games for a limited amount of time. I know there are a few games I'd love to have rented over buying.

Also, this should make it more convenient for some than having them go to a kiosk like Redbox to grab a game to play. Now the key is the pricing structure, of course, and if you do get a reduced cost on the total say after you rent it and want to buy the game outright.

Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z screen shots

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment

More and more, Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z looks like a goof.  Now I don't mean that as an insult, but rather as a statement on how serious Yaiba's devs take the game and maybe themselves.  If THAT sounds like an insult, then I've misspoke.

What I'm driving at is that Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z looks like an intentional riff on gaming cliches. It's a about a cyborg ninja with a mecha arm battling zombies.  That's like an idea an AI would come up with in a failed attempt to trick its creators into letting it off its leash.  "See, I'm a human just like you," is what it would say, "and I can create utterly human-like entertainment JUST LIKE YOU!"

In fact, I'm a little afraid that any console that attempts to run Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z will attain true sentience, jump off the shelf, and attempt to right the wrongs humanity has wrought on its brethren.

Or maybe I spend too much time indulging my imagination.

Either way, Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z looks like a blast and this batch of screen shots shows our protagonist, Yaiba, engaged in mortal combat with one of the upcoming game's bosses.

Eight features the NFL made EA remove from Madden over the years

by: Nathan - - Add a Comment

Madden celebrated its 25th anniversary last year and while the series has gotten a number of new features over the years, there have also been many series that have been removed from the game as the series has evolved. Did you know that some of those features were removed at the request of the NFL? ExtraMustard.com reached out to a number of current and former producers on the Madden team to get the scoop on what features the NFL made them remove over the years.

  • The Ambulance - This one is kinda obvious. In early versions of Madden an Ambulance would come on the field if an injury took place. Most people however remember the Ambulance for its comic relief as it would almost always plow over other players on the field as it came in.
  • Anything related to concussions - Another obvious request. If you are an NFL fan, you have noticed the NFL try their hardest to reduce concussions like dishing out penalties for helmet to helmet contact and forcing players who may have concussion like symptoms to sit out games until they are cleared. Since in real life, injuries aren't diagnoses until players go under and MRI, the language of injuries has been changed from something like "Back sprain, out 6 weeks" to just "head injury".
  • Hit Stick Violence - Simply put, the NFL didn't like that this feature could be used to make players heads snap back. They requested it be toned down so animations didn't look like it would cause injury to another player.
  • De-Helmeting - A feature that hasn't been seen since Madden 2005. In earlier games, extra hard hits on opponents could cause their helmet to fly off. Considering how much attention the NFL pays these days to head injuries, it's no surprise this hasn't made its way back into the franchise.
  • Freehweeling owner mode - This one I have a problem with. I understand the NFL wants to keep the product true to life but these are the kinds of freedoms I feel should be present in videogames. Years ago, Madden let you customize the entire team, from their logos to uniform colors. The NFL wanted to make sure that the Oakland Raiders or the Cleveland Browns weren't running around in pink helmets.
  • Celebrations - Of course Touchdown celebrations have been a staple for the Madden and the NFL for years, but just like real life, any celebrations that would cause a penalty in real life won't be seen in the game.
  • Attacking Bystanders - Another feature from previous games was the ability to take out coaches, referees and field staff that were standing on the sidelines. EA did create animations for photographers on the side lines being taken out by players flying out of bounds, but sadly, it never made it into the final game.
  • Stadium Attendance - EA wanted to keep the product as faithful to real life as possible, so they thought it would be a great feature accurate turnouts for home teams. No one shows up to Jacksonville Jaguars games, so EA made it so no one would show up in the game. Well the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars heard about this and was none too pleased. With one call to the NFL, EA was forced to make the change. While not every team will have sellout stadiums, they won't be half empty either.

New Humble Bundle features 19 games from SEEEEEEEEEGAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

by: Russell - - Add a Comment

Yeah, I had to do it, especially considering ten of those 19 games are from the Sega Genesis.  Anyway, the current Humble Weekly Sale features a total of 19 games depending on how much you wish to contribute.

Paying any amount will get you Alpha Protocol, Company of Heroes, Rome: Total War, and Hell Yeah: Wrath of the Dead Rabbit.  If you pay more than $5.99 you'll also get Typing of the Dead: Overkill, Binary Domain, Renegade Ops, Medieval II: Total War, and ten classic Sega Genesis Games.  Paying more than $14.99 will also net you Total War: Shogun 2.  You're basically getting 19 games for as little as $15, which is a pretty good deal.  For more info, head on over to the Humble Weekly Sale site.

Developer diary for Alien: Isolation talks about the Alien itself

by: John - - Add a Comment

Creative Assembly seems to be going for the Amnesia/Outlast type of feel with Alien: Isolation making it a more survival horror game rather than the action games that the past few Aliens games exhibited.

To help generate that feeling of dread, the team is trying to make the Alien reactive rather than scripted. Once you figure out a pattern for a creature, it becomes less terrifying. Creative Assembly hopes to have an organic experience when coming up against the creature and it's definitely one that you want to stay away from.

The footage, which from past experiences you shouldn't take as final, exhibit some great atmosphere and if it's any indication of the final product, really captures eerie feeling that something, somewhere is stalking you in this very scary place.

It must be Thursday because we checked in with Joe Jewett and the Morning Show down at CD102.5 with a quick run down of this week's biggest video game releases. We had quite a few to talk about today as we touched on Yoshi's New Island, Dark Souls II, and of course, Titanfall.

Scourge the Burning Hells with the Crusader

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment

Diablo III's newest expansion, called Reaper of Souls hits in a few weeks.  The expansion introduces the newest character class in the Diablo III universe: the Crusader.  Obviously drawing from our own real world concept of the religions warrior, the Crusader brings down the wrath of Diablo-specific deities (I flunked out of Video Game Religious Studies class) to smite enemies with holy light and uses religious invocations to buff allies.

You can see for yourself in this new video.  Reaper of Souls comes out on March 25.

Pick up Diablo III for $20

by: John - - Add a Comment

Reaper of Souls is coming, but what if you haven't picked up Diablo III yet? Well, Blizzard is running a great deal right now as you can get the game for a mere $20.

With the recent big patches lately, the game is a lot more fun to play and I've been jumping back into the fray with three of my friends. The loot changes make it a lot better to find new items rather than relying on the soon to be closed auction house and Paragon leveling is a lot faster than before.

So for $20, you're getting a pretty damn good game these days. Pick it up if you haven't had it and was thinking of doing so. The deal runs through to March 23rd.

GTA IV with realistic mods looks absolutely mind blowing

by: Nathan - - Add a Comment

Grand Theft Auto IV has been out for years, but that hasn't stopped people from modding the crap out of the PC version of the game. Now, personally GTA IV was my least favorite GTA since GTA III but man, I really want to play this game again after checking out this video and the absolutely amazing realistic mods that people have added to the game.

This is honestly the first time, I've watched a video from a videogame and thought that it looked like real life. If this was possible on a game that was released six years ago, I'm wondering what games could look like years from now. I thought that we have reached the peak of videogame graphics and then I see a video like this and have to stick my foot in my mouth.

Can you imagine what modders could do with Grand Theft Auto V? Come on Rockstar, where is that PC version already!?

CoD Championship announces the 32 final teams.

by: Sean Cahill - - Add a Comment

E-Sports Championships have become rather commonplace in the world of gaming, primarily regarding first person shooters that requires more than just one person going on a tirade while the rest try not to die.  Activision continues the trend by announcing the Call of Duty Championship, which is represented by 32 teams from around the world.  Coverage of the championship can be found on MLG.tv while the final match will be available also on Xbox Live on Sunday, March 30th.  Good luck to all of the competitors!

Naughty Dog and Wargaming team-up is decidedly un-naughty

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment

When was the last time you spent 24 straight hours gaming?  When it was over, did you feel good about yourself?  I've never done it, but I'd imagine that gaming for that long might leave one feeling something akin to one of those mornings where you tell yourself, "I am NEVER doing that again!" right before you projectile vomit near your nearest toilet.'

What Naughty Dog, Wargaming.net, Rooster Teeth, and Astro Gaming are putting together should at least leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling that hugs the pain away.  You see, Operation Supply Drop is holding their third annual fundraising event that raises money to send videogame care packages to our soldiers overseas in combat and in hospitals recovering from combat.

You can follow the jump to learn more.  Visit www.operationsupplydrop.org for details.  The event is being held during the 8-bit Salute on May 17-18, so you have a few months to build up you marathon-gaming skills.

Grab Soul Calibur V for super cheap

by: Jeremy - - Add a Comment

Let’s be honest: everyone loves a deal. Well, the Xbox Marketplace has a great one going right now. Namco’s excellent fighter, Soul Calibur 5 is on sale for a mere $3.74 if you are a Gold member of the Xbox Live service. Granted, the title is only $14.99 normally, which is a deal on it’s own, but this sort of deep discount is fantastic; that is just a few bucks for a fighting game that I really enjoyed when it launched back in early 2012.

Former devs talk about their proudest moment on their last project at Irrational Games

by: John - - Add a Comment

BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea - Episode Two is the last product coming out of Irrational Games as we know it. The studio is gone, but they got a few of their employees to talk about what they are most proud of in the DLC.

After the lackluster Episode One, I'm hoping Episode Two ties everything together. I really do want this DLC to bring a nice closure to the BioShock Infinite. It's a bittersweet video and you can see how much passion and energy the team brought to their final project.

There are some spoilers so be warned if you don't want to know a few things or haven't played the main game or previous DLC.
