Everyone can now create games with Project Spark

by: John - - Add a Comment

One of the more intriguing products on the Xbox One, Project Spark, is now open for everyone to try. It was in a closed beta period before, but now anyone can download, install, and begin creating games.

Project Spark lets your imagination run wild by letting you create games and share them with others. As you can see from the montage, there's a great deal of variety that can be had on the platform. For those that ever wanted to try their hand at making a game using some nice, easy tools, Project Spark is for you.

Upgraded friends notifications and Kinect improvements coming to the Xbox One in April

by: Chuck - - Add a Comment

Microsoft has announced the contents of the April upgrade to the Xbox One and it's a pretty solid list of improvements.  In this update we'll see improvements to the Kinect's ability to recognize voice and motion commands, updated quality when recording clips with the GameDVR, and status bars for when games and apps are being updated.

The biggest update will be adding back in notifications for when friends and favorites log into Xbox Live.  This was one of the biggest misses when the system launched as it was such a core part of the Xbox Live experience (especially given that friends are tucked away into their own app now).

It's nice to see Microsoft continue to improve the system but it is a bit frustrating that the system is not at the same level as the Xbox 360.  Hopefully they will get there by the time E3 rolls around.

First trailer for FIFA 2014 World Cup is now available for viewing

by: Sean Cahill - - Add a Comment

We're just three months away from Brazil hosting the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the tournament to decide the world champion of association football.  EA Sports, having obtained the license for the World Cup, has released the first trailer for the officially licensed game FIFA 2014 World Cup.  While FIFA 14 actually includes the World Cup as part of both versions of career mode (Manager or Player), this is a standalone game that will feature new animations and build upon the modes that are already included in FIFA 14.  Check out the trailer below, and also be sure to make your way over to the official blog and site for the game, which can be found here.

Xbox One will be available in 26 more markets by September

by: John - - Add a Comment

Right now, the Xbox One is available in 13 markets. That's going to expand this year by September. Today, Microsoft announced that 26 new markets will have access to the console by September. Oh look, Japan is in there. That's going to be an interesting market for Microsoft given how the past two consoles did over there.

The Xbox One has a little momentum right now with the release of Titanfall. The console saw a nice increase in sales the past month and it's sure to keep going with the FPS from Respawn Entertaiment.

The following markets will see the console sometime this year:

  • Argentina
  • Belgium
  • Chile
  • Colombia
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • Greece
  • Hungary
  • India
  • Israel

Garden Warfare getting some free DLC on March 18th

by: Chuck - - Add a Comment

In a rare and surprising move, Electronic Arts has announced that owners of Plants vs. Zombies:Garden Warfare will be getting some DLC tomorrow.  The package is called the "Garden Variety Pack" and adds 24 new ability upgrades (three for each of the eight classes) and a new map for the astounding price of zero dollars.

That's right, the folks at Electronic Arts are actually giving away free content for their quite excellent garden shooter.  This is a bit of a stunning move as the company has been known for wringing every last penny from customers for years now.  Pardon the pun but maybe the company has turned over a new leaf?

Adam Isgreen gives us a sneak peak at Sadira's alternate costume in Killer Instinct

by: Nathan - - Add a Comment

There are big plans for Killer Instinct this month as Fulgore, Story Mode, possibly a single player arcade mode and new costumes for Thunder and Sadira are planned to be released. No word yet on when all the new content drops but Adam Isgreen on his Twitter gave the fans a sneak peak at Sadira's new costume to hold us over until the official announcement.

My guess is that it looks like she may get some kind of Gothic Lolita costume. No word yet on what her accessories will be like or when the new costumes will be available. If the release is like the Spinal update, it probably won't come until the very end of the month.

Sadira is my main fighter in the new Killer Instinct so I am very anxious and excited to see the full costume and all the accessories that I can give her.

Let's kick some balls: 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil official gameplay trailer

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment

Posted to Twitter a little while ago, EA has gifted we lucky football fans with the official gameplay trailer for 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.

Bright lights, pop music, ball physics, and well-known players in the less than well-known kits belonging to their home nations.  I mean, how many people knew Wales as anything other than that "bulgy part of western Britain" before Gareth Bale?  Now we know what their national team kits looks like - and that they have their own national team!  Gareth Bale: the gift that keeps on giving.

Eight new screenshots for Batman: Arkham Knight

by: John - - Add a Comment

Eight new screenshots have surfaced for the upcoming Rocksteady produced Batman: Arkham Knight. We have some looks at Jim Gordon, the Penguin, the Riddler, and the Batmobile.

The game certainly looks a little more gritty, if that's possible. Gordon looks pretty ragged and I'm guessing the female in the screenshot is Barbara Gordon. If so, I'd love to see a cameo of Batgirl in the game. The shot of Batman flying over the city is breathtaking though and I hope that's a glimpse of the scope of the game.

Batman: Arkham Origins is due out this October 14th on the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Developer diary for Alien: Isolation talks about the Alien itself

by: John - - Add a Comment

Creative Assembly seems to be going for the Amnesia/Outlast type of feel with Alien: Isolation making it a more survival horror game rather than the action games that the past few Aliens games exhibited.

To help generate that feeling of dread, the team is trying to make the Alien reactive rather than scripted. Once you figure out a pattern for a creature, it becomes less terrifying. Creative Assembly hopes to have an organic experience when coming up against the creature and it's definitely one that you want to stay away from.

The footage, which from past experiences you shouldn't take as final, exhibit some great atmosphere and if it's any indication of the final product, really captures eerie feeling that something, somewhere is stalking you in this very scary place.

The Witcher 3 will be delayed until February 2015

by: John - - Add a Comment

In news that will be pretty sad to a lot of RPG fans, CD Projekt has delayed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from this year until February of 2015. It's set to hit the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, but we'll have to wait a bit longer.

I always say delay it until you get it right. In this case, CD Projekt wants a few more months to really put the spit and polish on the game. I know the series has some hardcore fans and I know CD Projekt doesn't want to do a disservice to them by producing a sub-par Witcher game.

From what I've seen of The Witcher 3 during NVIDIA events, it looks really really good graphically. I think a few more months to help flesh it out is a good idea and if it turns out to be a bloody good game, then no one will really remember the game being pushed back a little bit nor care that it did.

Naughty Dog and Wargaming team-up is decidedly un-naughty

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment

When was the last time you spent 24 straight hours gaming?  When it was over, did you feel good about yourself?  I've never done it, but I'd imagine that gaming for that long might leave one feeling something akin to one of those mornings where you tell yourself, "I am NEVER doing that again!" right before you projectile vomit near your nearest toilet.'

What Naughty Dog, Wargaming.net, Rooster Teeth, and Astro Gaming are putting together should at least leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling that hugs the pain away.  You see, Operation Supply Drop is holding their third annual fundraising event that raises money to send videogame care packages to our soldiers overseas in combat and in hospitals recovering from combat.

You can follow the jump to learn more.  Visit www.operationsupplydrop.org for details.  The event is being held during the 8-bit Salute on May 17-18, so you have a few months to build up you marathon-gaming skills.

Those who are into punishing their self will definitely want to check out Dark Souls II this week. More bugs gets introduced with the new Battlefield 4 patch

by: John - - Add a Comment

Battlefield 4 was patched up a few days ago and I popped into the game for the first time since then. What you see below is a few minutes into my first match since the patch and I've already ran into this bug a few times. It seems no matter what DICE does, they keep putting out patches that causes new issues.

For this one, you can see the person who killed me is highlighting a teammate of mine though the name is right on who really fired the kill shot. Oh, that 0HP bug is back again, which I thought was squashed previously. Sigh....

New LEGO The Hobbit Trailer spoofs buddy-up heist flicks

by: Cary - - Add a Comment

The latest trailer for LEGO The Hobbit takes a humorous look at the team you'll have assembled to go on your quest. In true LEGO game fashion there are plenty of jokes goofing on each character's adventurer genre tropes as well as some plain old slapstick. Check out the trailer below and wonder with me what the Italian Job or Ocean's 11(or 12 or 13) might look like with Middle Earth casting.

Watch Dogs comes out May 27th

by: John - - Add a Comment

Finally, we have a release date for Watch Dogs. The often delayed, highly anticipated title from Ubisoft will be on the store shelves May 27th, 2014. That's about two and a half months away.

Watch Dogs is hitting all of the current and previous gen platforms with the exception of the Wii and the Wii U version is delayed until who knows when. I wouldn't be surprised if the Wii U version gets cancelled outright, but hopefully they do make it for the Nintendo console.

Below is the story trailer for the game. We can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and as long as there are no more delays, (crosses fingers) we'll all be hacking with our cell phones come May 27th.

Titanfall goes 8-bit with Titans in these classic games

by: John - - Add a Comment

Titanfall is coming in a few short days, but Respawn Entertainment and Atari have brought us something really fun to play with until then.

Three classic arcade games: Asteroids, Missile Command, and Centipede, are getting some Titan action. Titanfall Arcade lets you play these three classics (currently only Asteroid is available), but with a Titan destroying the asteroids, missiles, and bugs.

Asteroids does take on a whole new experience with a Titan and having played this game a ton when I was a kid, it was great to relive some of the memories I had, albeit with a twist on the game. The other two games will hopefully be available soon to try it. If you got five minutes to kill, check it out.

2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil screenshots

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment

Football's national world championship tournament kicks off this summer in Brazil.  Lets just hope that when it's over, they don't decide to invade Argentina or something since that's the cool thing for host nations of twice-a-decade national sports competitions to do now.

No doubt, as we get closer to this summer's World Cup, we'll hear all about how it's football at it's best.  The problem is that it's not.  In the past, World Cup matches have been dull, low-scoring even for soccer, defensive-minded affairs because the top teams are so stacked with talent that one mistake means you've lost.

No doubt, that won't be a problem for EA Sports 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.  The average score of that game's virtual World Cup ought to be 5-4.  Furthermore, it's already won the competition for longest sports game title of the year.  Kudos, EAS2014FWCB
