The next Xbox won't force you to be online for single player games

by: John - - Add a Comment
We can all put down our pitch forks and calm down now. An email sent to the staff at Microsoft as reported by Ars Technica has   word that you can expect the console to work without relying on an Internet connection. Things such as single player games and watching Blu-Ray movies.

That means everyone can stop griping AND it looks like it also confirms a Blu-Ray drive will be in there for the next Xbox for both games and movies. Also, something that might interest me more than I thought it would, is the ability to connect an HDMI source and watch TV through the system. Now, I do that with Microsoft's excellent Windows Media Center, but I'm curious to see what they have in store for those that don't have a PC with a cable card in this area.

The event to talk about the next Xbox is a few weeks away, but this should go a long way in clearing that little mess up. Now,  can we go back to talking about what this system might bring to the table that will befefit us all as well as what games are going to come out

Awesomenauts are...1!

by: Russell - - Add a Comment
It's been about one year since Awesomenauts was launched worldwide on the PS3 and Xbox 360.  Since that day, over a dozen updates have been made that includes adding items, new characters, and a new map, along with the usual balance adjustments that come with a lot of games today.  To celebrate, Ronimo Games has released a new video that showcases the progress the game has made since it's inception back in 2010, including some footage that has never been shown before.  Ronimo Games has also released a video showing off an upcoming skin known as Leon Pirate.  Leon Pirate will be the first premium skin and will be released with updat 1.18.  The skin will also replace the audio for the character, which according to the video makes the character have a French accent...or just speak French entirely.

Magrunner: Dark Pulse wears its Portal influence on its digital sleeve

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment
Amazingly, Portal didn't spawn a million copies.  It has, however, now spawned one: Magrunner: Dark Pulse.  Magrunner: Dark Pulse is a downloadable title that will be available for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.  It doesn't feature portals, but it does feature people running around in challenge rooms solving puzzles with their Gruckezberg magnetic gloves that allows them to manipulate objects and bypass obstacles.

Now Loading for the week of May 6, 2013

by: Jeremy - - Add a Comment
Things are grinding to pretty much a complete halt this week after a hectic month of April. Don’t worry though, this won’t last forever and things will pick up again next week with the very promising Metro: Last Light which kicks off a string of non-stop, high profile releases over the next 2 months. Nintendo fans are about the only ones who have anything worth celebrating this week with a digital release that brings Mario and Donkey Kong together once again. Aside from that, there is just a little guy named Lobo joining the Injustice roster on both platforms.

This week’s lineup (yes, this is everything officially launching this week):
  • Injustice: Gods Among Us Lobo DLC for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3
  • Mario & Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move for Nintendo 3DS

Here's an hour of Battlefront III

by: John - - Add a Comment
There were many stories on Star Wars: Battlefront III last year. Some developers even claimed that the game was 99% done and all they had were bug fixes to do when the game was cancelled. Well, now you can actually see the game as PtoPOnline has recorded his play through with a build of the game on Twitch

I'm sure there will be many folks who watch this and crave for the release of the game. It's unfortunate that the game was cancelled when it was so close to being shipped and we'll probably never know why the powers that be pulled the plug on it at its current state. But, for now, enjoy what would have been.

Insomniac is getting the word out about their first multiplatform title Fuse. With the newest announcement, players can delve into the backstory of all four characters, as well as the first big story mission, in a digital comic.

Radical Interactive has the reins on this comic, adding more depth to the intel docs found within the game, they said.

Check out the trailer below for a look into the characters' lore.

Team up with Overstrike 9 on May 7

by: Mike - - Add a Comment
Insomniac Games and EA announced that a demo for the upcoming cooperative shooter Fuse will be available May 7 on Xbox Live and PSN.

Players can team up with one other friend in split screen mode, or three others online, but also play alone as the four characters of Overstrike 9 squad. Each of the characters will work together in the demo to find the source of Fuse –– the alien substance that grants supernatural powers –– in an arctic weapons depot.

For an in-depth look at our cooperative session with Insomniac CEO Ted Price, head here to see Fuse in action before it releases May 28.

Netherealm Studios makes it official. Batgirl is the next DLC character for Injustice: Gods Among Us

by: Nathan - - Add a Comment
No sense in them holding off on the announcement now. Yesterday it appeared that someone screwed up as DLC for Batgirl in Injustice: Gods Among US showed up on the Xbox Live marketplace unannounced and for free. You could try downloading it, but you would receive and error once it reached 100%. It didn't take long for this info to hit the web and gamers to start speculating.

Well Netherealm went ahead and confirmed the news via their Facebook earlier today and released an official in-game screen shot.

They didn't release any other details besides for saying that a gameplay video will be revealed sometime next week.

I still have mixed thoughts about this, but I guess I'll just wait to see how she plays in-game and I really hope she is drastically different than Batman.

Now Playing: Blood Dragon's Dogma Edition

by: Randy - - Add a Comment
Beyond: Two Souls has a 2,000-page script but will only have 10 hours of gameplay. Activision's CEO is one of the highest-paid in America, while EA lopped off limbs left and right. But it's wasn’t all bad this week--Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon’s pulpy VHS shtick won hearts and minds, and critical darling Fez finally spun its way onto PC.

What are you playing this weekend?

Russell Archey | staff writer | Twitter @neoscyther
More than likely I'll be working on my next review piece, Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move. It's been awhile since I've played a Mario vs. DK game, so I'm really looking forward to spending time with this one.

Sean Cahill | staff writer | Twitter @seancahill2
I'll be sitting down for some Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen on the 360 for the latest review piece. Outside of that, after beating BioShock Infinite in the past couple of days, I'll probably return to Tomb Raider to finally beat that and, perhaps, Far Cry 3.

Sean Colleli | staff writer
It's time to hit the indie Steam backlog, probably with some They Bleed Pixels. I might also pick up DLC Quest; my girlfriend tells me it's pretty funny. Then again, I might also get Mars: War Logs, Zeno Clash II, or of course Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. Decisions, decisions.

Jeremy Duff | senior staff writer | Twitter @duff3c
This weekend I need to sink a bit of time into The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing, which is shaping up to be way better than I expected. I might also have to dip my toes back into Soul Sacrifice because, well, those monsters aren't going to slay themselves.

Charles Husemann | editor-in-chief | Twitter @chusemann
This weekend will be spent working on Farm Simulator: Suburban Edition as I finally get around to cleaning up the garden areas in my backyard and start working on taming the yard. On a digital game front, I'm going to be spending time with MechWarrior Online as I continue level grinding on my next sets of mechs to elite status.  Time permitting, I'm going to try and progress a bit on BioShock Infinite and possibly even start a playthrough of Half-Life 2 as a recent HL2DM session has reignited my love of the game.

Randy Kalista | staff writer | Twitter @randykalista
My 14-day trial of EVE Online expired, so my character's early explorer/archaeology career is on ice indefinitely. They've done extensive work with the tutorials. It unlocked entire branches of gameplay too complicated to figure out on my own before. So now I need a pick-me-up. I would revisit The Walking Dead or Planescape: Torment but, ugh. Downers. Some Sacred Citadel beat 'em up action might do the trick. Jeremy and I co-op'd a bit, but it crashed as soon as we reached the first boss, some ancient, 'roided-up Treant.

Mike Mahardy | staff writer | Twitter @mmahardy
I've been getting back into nightly loot fests in Diablo III, so those will be punctuated by attempts to finally become a fighting game fan. I have a tendency to try out most new fighting games, but after trying Injustice: Gods Among Us at GDC, I think my love for the license will pull me through.

Techland announce Hellraid

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment
We've all played first-person shooters, and we've all, at some point in our gaming lives, thought, "Enough with all this shooting!  I want to hit things with a sword and/or shoot magic at the supernatural and can't just spend two more years of my life lost in Skyrim.  I've only got one chance left with my boss and significant other and I need to save it for GTA V."

Well, Amalgamofeverygamerever, I have some good news for you: Techland, makers of Dead Island and Call of Juarez, have heard your call and present Hellraid.  Hellraid is a single-player first person hack-and-slash game with ranged weapons and magic that also features a four-player co-op mode that sounds an awfully lot like it's a wave-based "horde mode."

Hellraid will be available for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC later this year.  To learn more, follow the jump.  You can also visit hellraid.com, and facebook.com/hellraidgame.

Batgirl possibly outed for Injustice: Gods Among Us DLC

by: Nathan - - Add a Comment
Oh boy... someone is going to be in trouble for this.

A couple of weeks ago, someone on the Gamespot forums posted that they had discovered the names of the four DLC characters. Listed were Batgirl, Zod and Scorpion from Mortal Kombat. I frequent a lot of fighting game and Mortal Kombat fansites and let me tell you, the response to these characters has been pretty negative.

To make matters worse for those hoping this list was false, it seems that someone accidentally let the cat out of the bag early on the next DLC character for Injustice today. Spotted at the Eventhub.com forums, "Batgirl" accidentally showed up on the Xbox Live marketplace today for free. Although you could download the character it you would get an error once it reached 100%. In any case, I would say that there is a good chance that Batgirl is coming to Injustice soon and that the leaked list of DLC characters is real.

Of course, I'd love to try out and see the characters in action before forming an opinion. That being said, I also find this list rather disappointing. There is such a small number of female characters in this game that I was hoping we would get more than one as DLC and something that wasn't just Batgirl. Black Canary, Power Girl, Poison Ivy and the list better choices goes on and on. Zod actually makes sense since he is the villain in Man Of Steel, which is coming out this Summer, and I would assume they would want to cross promote that.

Finally, as much as I love Mortal Kombat, I loathe the idea of Scorpion in this game. I already cleansed my mind of the atrocity that was Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe and I don't want to be reminded of that. Plus his inclusion makes no sense in terms of the storyline. How are they going to explain Scorpions inclusion in the DC Universe now?

New Remember Me trailer make me remember what I love about videogames

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment
Let's see... New IP? Check.  Female protagonist with something approaching normal proportions? Check.  Cyberpunk?  Check.  Future setting? Check.  Nearly a full checklist of "things that get me excited about an upcoming game release?"  Check.

I'm really digging Remember Me.  Hopefully it will live up to the hype I can't help but build up in my sad, stunted, man-mind.  This game first got on my radar last month.  Now, it pretty much owns my radar and is leasing it back to me at my own great personal hardship.  Such is life.

The following trailer features the game's Creative Director, Jean-Maxime Moris and lots of gameplay footage.  Oh Capcom, please just shut up and take my money.

And don't forget: Remember Me lands on retail shelves on June 4 in North America and June 7 in Europe.  It will be available for the PS3. Xbox 360, and PC.

Dark screenshots and and super-generous minimum PC specs released today

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment
What does a vampire need stealth for?  They're generally portrayed in popular culture as being stronger, faster, and generally better than baseline humans.  A vampire should be able to take what it wants with no regard for consequences or its own personal safety beyond the typical vamp concerns of sunlight, garlic, holy water, and silver.

Such is not the case in Kalyso's upcoming stealth-action-vampire game called Dark.  Dark is set for release this summer for the PC and Xbox 360 and features vampires that must rely on the shadows to survive.  Today's new batch of screenshots shows off the game's quasi-cell shaded look.  I'm assuming it's thanks to that art style that the just-released minimum specs for Dark are so relaxed and groovy.  They are: Windows XP SP2, a 2.0 GHz Dual Core, 2 GB System RAM, 5 GB free HDD, a DirectX compatible sound card, a Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT/ATI Radeon HD 4670/Intel HD Graphics 4000, 512 MB RAM.

Even my PC, which was cobbled together for 150 dollars from my neighbor's menagerie of left-over PC components meets that.

Tiny Tina's assault on Dragon Keep is the next Borderlands 2 DLC.

by: Nathan - - Add a Comment
A lot of Borderlands fans have been wondering what the next downloadable story content for the game would be since being teased at PAX East. Well today Borderlands 2 writer Anthony Burch tweeted the following photo in which a poster for "Tiny Tina's assault on Dragon Keep" can be seen in the background.

The tweet was deleted shortly after but not before many people screen grabbed it and now its making its way around the net. Sure the DLC reveal could have been "accidentally" leaked but knowing the sense of humor the Borderlands dev's have when it comes to this game makes me think this was a clever way of teasing the DLC.

No date or price yet has been released but the seasons pass for the game said that all content will be out by the end of June so I would say to expect it around that time.

Say hello to Katarina, the not-so-friendly ghost (The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing)

by: Jeremy - - Add a Comment
Reverb Games has released a new trailer for their upcoming game, The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing. The gothic-noir / steampunk action RPG, based on the classic literary character from Bram Stoker’s Dracula, is heading towards PC’s everywhere later this month.

The new trailer, shown below, highlights your companion in the game: the ghostly Katarina. She is as lethal as she is beautiful and seems to keep you in line as much as she watches your back. After putting a little bit of time into a preview build of the game, I can say that she definitely makes your adventure interesting. The AI that controls her really plays the role well, akin to something similar to one of your trusty pets in the Torchlight series. We’ll have a full preview of the game next week and look for a live stream of the game sometime this weekend. We’ll post more details on that later this week.

One Defiance gamer will win a "special place" on the Defiance TV show

by: Randy - - Add a Comment
EVE Online players are, as we speak, submitting stories to seed EVE TV shows, comic books, and novels.

Meanwhile in Defiance, one lucky gamer will get a transmedia experience as their video game character's likeness is artistically rendered into a "special place" in the TV show. One can only hope that special place is in the pale alien lady's hot tub room.

When it comes to declaring a winner, very little luck will be involved. From April 30 (the contest already started) to May 12, the person earning the most ark salvage per hour during their time played over the contest's duration will win.

What I take that to mean is: you can't just log in for an hour, make a bajillion ark-salvage bucks, or whatever, and then log out hoping you'll win. You'll have to complete a Most Wanted: Competitor and Most Wanted: Rogue's Gallery pursuit as well. That means killing mutants, raiders, 99ers, and plenty of other undesirables on your path to video-game-TV-show-crossover fame.

The official sign-up site hints that this is only the first opportunity to do this. You'll have more chances to get your game character digitally remastered for the TV series in the future. Sure would up the ante if one of those times has you transformed into a bath bead in Stahma Tarr's hot tub.

[Not pictured: Stahma Tarr's bath attire.]
