Final Borderlands 2 Headhunter Pack launched today

by: Russell - - Add a Comment

For those looking to squeeze a bit more life out of Borderlands 2 (or if you're like me and can't stop playing it because it's so awesome), today saw the launch of the final DLC pack for the game: Sir Hammerlock vs. the Son of Crawmerax.

For those who are wondering who Crawmerax is, Crawmerax is a boss in the original game's The Secret Armory of General Knoxx expansion pack and was considered the first raid boss in the series.  Consider it the first game's equivalent of Terramorphous the Invincible, except Crawmerax was part of an expansion whereas Terramorphous can be fought without any expansion pack.  Anywho, Crawmerax takes Sir Hammerlock captive and wants to get his revenge on the original vault hunters for defeating his father in the previous outing.  Sir Hammerlock vs. the Son of Crawmerax is available now on Steam, Xbox Live Arcade, and the PlayStation Network for $2.99.

Impressions: 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil

by: Sean Cahill - - Add a Comment

Every four years, the world of international football gathers together for a month long final tournament to determine the best team in the world.  Just like the 2010 World Cup, EA Sports has brought the tournament straight into our homes via console in the form of 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, which is available today on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

We're not quite ready to do a review of the game, but we wanted to make sure some impressions of the game are available as we've had time to go through most of the game modes.  2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil brings the same fun game modes from the previous version of this game, including the ever-popular Captain Your Country mode, which allows players to create a pro from scratch or pick from an existing pro for a corresponding country and build them up during the qualification process, leading all the way to the World Cup final in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  The mode has gone through some upgrades, including making it a bit easier to build up stats via the training mini-games that have been available in the FIFA franchise of games.  It may even be a little too easy to build those stats up, but considering that a player doesn't have access to a player's club team like they would in the regular title, this is the way to make sure that created players are competitive.

Of course, the regular World Cup mode is available, which leaves the choice up to a player as to whether to play the World Cup Final as is from the draw back in December, or to create their own fantasy version of the tournament and create some stacked groups in order to increase the difficulty.  The mode is straight forward, as expected, but stunning visuals of all the new stadiums that have been built or renovated for the tournament are shown off in all their glory.  Gameplay is fairly similar to FIFA 14, if not just a tad slower than its counterpart.

If a player feels like trying to re-write history, the History of the World Cup is available and allows players to replay some of the most exciting games in the history of the tournament.  Also included in the title is the Road to Qualification mode that allows a player to take on the managerial position of a country and try to take them from the early stages of qualifying all the way to Brazil.

For a title that is somewhat truncated since it is only international matches leading to the World Cup, there is plenty of meat in this game, though there is a lot more to cover than what can be included in this.

We'll include more on 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil in our review, which is expected later this week.

Chop, shoot, and burn stuff in Bound by Flame combat video

by: Randy - - Add a Comment

Spiders Games details Bound by Flame's role-playing combat system in this recent video. Your bipolar, demon-possessed character advances three combat styles: fighter, ranger, and pyromancer. The fighter tree contains hand-to-hand martial skills, the ranger tree contains bow-and-arrow attacks, and the pyromancer tree lets you huck fireballs or set your weapon on fire. A bunch of customizations also change up the damage component—and physical appearance—of your blades; from the blade itself, to the hilt, to the pommel.

The bestiary lands halfway between eastern European fantasy and horror. It'll be interesting if your companions serve a greater purpose than as complements to your weapon sets. Those details may emerge in a later video. For now, here's what it looks like when you chop/shoot/burn stuff up.

Bound by Flame launches May 9 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

The Last of Us Remastered trailer gives a short look at the game on PS4

by: Cary - - Add a Comment

The Last of Us Remastered is coming to the PS4 and there's a new trailer with a very short glimpse of what that might look like. If you haven't played the game, though, you may want to avoid this trailer, as the short scene doesn't give anything away, but will dampen one of the best scenes in the game.

Check it out below.

Diablo III gets a hotfix for looting

by: John - - Add a Comment

I'm happy to see Blizzard making these improvements to Diablo III. So far, almost everything they've done has been a vast improvement since the game first came out.

That said, today a hotfix is going out to all the servers today to change up some of the mechanics of looting. Unique monsters are going to drop less loot, but that's OK.  Chests are also going to be less frequent, but again, that's going to be OK.

The chances of finding a legendary item will now double when you are in a rift, making those areas a lot more profitable to farm. Now, folks are going to be more apt at doing rift runs over killing unique monsters when trying to farm for better gear.

Kadala is also getting a change as she's going to be more apt at giving you a legendary when you trade in blood shards. Good, because I've probably gotten one so-so legendary from her after giving her about 500 shards. I'm glad she's getting an increase in chances of giving out a good item.

All servers in all regions should be updated by the end of the day today.

A new Borderlands is coming this year called the Pre-Sequel

by: John - - Add a Comment

Want more guns and loot? It's coming with a brand new Borderlands game. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is set in a time before the two Borderlands games. Below we have some alpha footage of what 2K Australia is working on.

Yup, Gearbox isn't doing this one as they've handed development of this one to 2K Australia. The video shows some of the new classes and environments. Claptrap will be playable in the game, so let's hope we hear some nice quips while he's doling out punishment.

One near feature is a ground pound where you can fly or float above someone in the low gravity environments, press the crouch button, and come down on them to stun or kill them.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is coming for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Yup, no Xbox One or PlayStation 4, which is kind of interesting. I wouldn't be surprised though if it does come out for the two consoles later on down the road.

Yes, The Last of Us Remastered is headed to the PS4 -Update-

by: John - - Add a Comment

It doesn't get much more official without an official word than a banner on your console's store. But the picture below shows off The Last of Us Remastered coming to the PlayStation 4 that's making the rounds on the carousel at Sony's website.

Still no word from either Naughty Dog or Sony and when you click on it, it takes you to a not found page. With that up, I'm expecting someone to officially give the word today.

The game will be $60 and I've read it will also include the Left Behind DLC that was released two months ago. It's good to see the game come out on the PlayStation 4 as it was one of the best games on the previous Sony console released close to the launch of the PlayStation 4. It looked absolutely gorgeous on the PlaySation 3 so I'm excited to see what more horsepower can do for an already visually stunning game.

-Update- Sony's finally given the official word on the game via their blog. Some highlights include commentary during the cinematics, Abandon Territories map pack, Reclaimed territories pack, and Left Behind DLC. Pre-orders will also net you a bunch of goodies as well.

Now Loading for the week of April 7, 2014

by: Jeremy - - Add a Comment

This week is all about pressure... on Microsoft that is! It’s a given that the new LEGO The Hobbit game will entertain fans of Tolken’s classic franchise and gamers alike, but how will both a new generation of the Kinect Sports franchise and a last-gen version of Titanfall fare with fans? I can speak from personal experience that Kinect Sports Rivals is an admirable addition to the franchise, despite some speedbumps along the way. AS for Titanfall, we shall have to wait and see...

This week’s lineup:

Marvel heroes coming to Disney Infinity

by: John - - Add a Comment

Disney Infinity does some cool things with the main thing being having a boatload of Disney characters from different movies interacting with each other. Disney picked up Marvel not too long ago and it looks like those comic book icons going to be coming to the game.

The preview shows Captain America's shield ricocheting around the town around various Disney characters. We'll have to wait to see what heroes the first wave brings us, but I'm guessing the entire Avenger's cast will be available in the first round.

Now with the Marvel heroes in the fold, how long before we see Star Wars characters in the game as well?

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Kingpin trailer

Bruce Lee is in EA Sports UFC

by: John - - Add a Comment

Well this came out of nowhere. Bruce Lee, yes THE Bruce Lee, has been added as a fighter in EA Sports UFC

The legendary martial artist can be unlocked either by pre-ordering the game or finishing the career mode on pro difficulty or higher. With him unlocked, you can use him in the Flyweight, Bantamweight, Featherweight, and Lightweight divisions.

It seems a little surreal seeing Bruce in the Octagon with UFC gloves on. Bruce's motto was to be like water, move fluidly. Jeet Kune Do, the style he invented, doesn't have a fix position and it's a lot about reacting to the opponent.

Now one has to wonder how he would have done in something like the UFC. His speed and power was legendary. It's too bad we'll never know.

Alien: Isolation sounds really scary

by: Randy - - Add a Comment

If you don't think sound is a major (major!) component to horror games, then you shouldn't (should not!) be making horror games. But thank our lucky stars, The Creative Assembly knows. And they're putting that knowledge into Alien: Isolation. Authenticity is their drive, and access to the original audio recordings from the 1979 movie is a big contributor to that chase.

A full orchestra. Minor key tonalities. Boots stomping fruit husks. Good stuff.

Alien: Isolation will be making people pee their pants on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on October 7.

Rock Band DLC Re-Licensing Update

by: Dan - - Add a Comment

It has been awhile since we last saw a DLC licensing update from Harmonix on Rock Band (Nov 2013!), but yesterday was the first quarterly update in 2014. After originally posting that all licenses had been secured that were expiring, Harmonix had to make an update and notate that two significant licenses were indeed going away.

The first is that Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” will be leaving the Rock Band store permanently on April 30th. As Harmonix points out, it is only $1 and there is a good chance you already own it, which would not impact you. However, if you have thought about pulling the trigger and haven’t yet, now is the time. The second is a bit bigger new. Apparently, the 20 free track offer from purchasing Rock Band 2 has expired and the redemption page is no longer live. So if you already own it, you are all set, but if you plan to buy RB2 in the future, it will be a little lighter in content than when it was originally released.

According to Harmonix, we shouldn’t see a new update (unless some urgent matter from a studio pops up) until approximately three months from now.
