Multiplayer in Watch Dogs looks crazy good

by: John - - Add a Comment

Ubisoft has put forth a video showing about 9 minutes of Watch Dogs' multiplayer aspect. The game actually seamlessly connects the single player and multiplayer game in a fun way. You can see the various ways you can get into multiplayer with a friend or friends in the video.

I really love how your friends can appear as NPCs in your game and you can initiate a multiplayer game with them. You don't have to get into some other mode to do so and it's this smooth transition from single player to multiplayer and vice versa that has peaked my interest.

Both team and single player online portions are shown and each look fun in its own way. I'm really excited for this game to come out and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

IGN has the first screenshot from the next Call of Duty game

by: John - - Add a Comment

This year's Call of Duty game is coming from the folks at Sledgehammer. This will be their first full fledged Call of Duty game and it's taken them three years to develop it.

IGN has the first screenshot from the game and from what the developers were saying, this is an actual in game screenshot. The model looks really, really detailed. You can see the small imperfections in the skin and the light reflecting off the various parts of the face.

If this is an actual in game model, then the visuals should be pretty stunning. The big question though is, how will the gameplay be.

Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games, and Treyarch are now on a three year cycle to produce Call of Duty games so let's hope the extra time does allow for some better games as the series is starting to get a bit stale for those who have played them for a while now.

Child of Light dev diaries: a living painting

by: Sean Colleli - - Add a Comment

Nintendo might have less than a clue about keeping solid retail titles in the pipeline for Wii U, but the console's digital library is surprisingly robust. Even big publishers like Ubisoft are recognizing the console's strength for downloadable titles, like their upcoming RPG Child of Light. Inspired by classic turn based RPGs of the 16-bit era, the game is styled like a living watercolor. It's nice to see that Ubi hasn't completely abandoned Wii U, as I'm most excited to play Child of Light and future projects from UbiArt on Nintendo's home console.

Alien Isolation is a world where technology won't save you

by: Sean Colleli - - Add a Comment

Creative Assembly keeps making me more confident about Alien: Isolation. They really seem to get what made Ridley Scott's 1979 film so terrifying: it wasn't about inexplicably stupid scientists making dumb decisions with trillions of dollars of technology, as in Prometheus. Rather, it was about a group of terrified space truckers, doing the best they could with the crappy tech they had on hand, making all the right decisions and still getting killed by the alien, which is precisely what made the movie scary.

Case in point: Creative Assembly is doing their best to reverse-engineer the work of Ron Cobb, the legendary concept artist who designed the look of both Scott's Alien and Cameron's sequel, Aliens. This very analog, push-button future Cobb created looked like it could actually exist and work, and Creative Assembly has taken that to heart in building their game. But once again, all of the tech in the world, advanced or 1970s clunky, won't save you from a literal force of nature like the xenomorph. This is something Aliens: Colonial Marines missed completely, so I still have high hopes for Isolation.

Behold the first look at Dragon Age: Inquisition coming to you October 7th

by: John - - Add a Comment

Yesterday the box art for Dragon Age: Inquisition popped up for everyone to see. Today, a new trailer is up with some gameplay footage for people to drool over.

Yes, the game does look absolutely stunning. It's running on the Frostbite 2 engine, which powers games like Battlefield 4. I was thoroughly surprised at how good the footage looks. The third person action looks amazing and some of the scenery is really well done.

There's plenty of action with dragons in the trailer and you get to see the Inquisition leaders as well. All told, the trailer does a great job at showing the power of the Frostbite 2 engine and how it's making Inquisition such a visually impressive game.

Dragon Age: Inquisition will be released on the PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4 on October 7th.

Amazon is running a very decidedly gold-box deal for video games today. It started this morning with Need for Speed Rivals for Xbox 360, and will include headsets, Skylanders figurines and other games throughout the day. Take a gander at the times and what products will be deeply discounted when they are on the clock.

BioWare's next will be the third game in the series, Dragon Age: Inquisition. Looking to bounce back from the lackluster second game, BioWare is really trying to make the third game stand out. Decisions should have a greater impact on the game and the world will be bigger for players to explore.

Today, the box art for the game has been revealed. Dragon Age III will be coming out for most platforms this fall after a year delay.

Now Loading for the week of April 21, 2014

by: Jeremy - - Add a Comment

Things are slowing a bit this week but there are still a ton of new games to play. This week may lack the “big name” / “highly anticipated” titles that we have seen the last couple of weeks, but there are still plenty of new games to pick up. Personally, I am looking forward to the HD-remake of one of my favorite games of the last generation: Cel Damage. surely, the game was far from perfect, but I had a ton of fun with it when it originally launched and always hoped for a sequel, or at least an update.

This week’s lineup includes:

  • Cel Damage HD for PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4
  • Dark Souls II for PC
  • Defense Technica for PlayStation 3
  • Demon Gaze for PlayStation Vita
  • Octodad: Dadliest Catch for PlayStation 4
  • Soul Calibur Lost Swords for PlayStation 3
  • Starlight Inception for PlayStation Vita
  • The Walking Dead: Season 2, Episode 1 for PlayStation Vita
  • Warface for Xbox 360

Your Bound by Flame hero probably won't look like your friend's Bound by Flame hero

by: Randy - - Add a Comment

Bound by Flame sounds a bit more ambitious with every press release. What deveoper Spiders Studios is saying about its upcoming action role-playing game is, your hero's appearance—which has a wide range of customization options from the beginning (including gender)—will continually have his or her appearance messed with throughout the story. Just like in Fable, doing bad stuff gives your skin a molten appearance and sprouts horns from your forehead. While doing good things apparently keeps you looking plainly human. (Perhaps a halo or some other kind of heavenly aura is called for.) All the while, of course, your armor and weaponry changes up with gear unlocks.

This widespread variety in appearance is great for gamers, but hell on marketing teams, since it becomes impossible to nail down a poster boy/girl to put on the front of your game box. It will be difficult—if they even try—to manufacture their own version of Commander Shepard, or Link, or Lara Croft. In other words, it will be difficult to pick Bound by Flame out of a crowd, simply because their mascot is so variable.

Bound by Flame is scheduled for a May 9 launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

PSN Update 1.70 lets you create and share videos easily and allows for pre-loading of games

by: John - - Add a Comment

The PlayStation 4 will be getting update 1.70 soon and Sony has given some details on what's in release on their blog. Coming to the PlayStation 4 is the Share Factory. This little piece of software will let you edit your saved video clips with features such as transitions, commentary, and music. The software looks fairly intuitive and will allow you to use your own music as well as the included ones as well.

Finally, the update will allow people who pre-order games to pre-load the game onto their system ahead of time. This feature is something that's a god send on platforms like Steam allowing people to play the game the second it's launched. Being able to purchase a game and have it pre-load days before is an extremely helpful feature and one I'm glad to see come to the PlayStation 4.

PlayStation 4 hits the 7 million units sold mark

by: Chuck - - Add a Comment

It's been just over a month since the PlayStation 4 hit 6 million units and the system is showing no signs of slowing down as Sony announced today that the system has hit the 7 million unit mark worldwide.

That's a pretty impressive feat and it's nice to see the system continuing to sell so well.  I imagine that the release of Infamous: Second Son helped keep things going for Sony.  At this rate the system will hit 10 million units right after E3.

Pepsi augments reality, throws meteors, aliens, and attacking robots at bus commuters

by: Randy - - Add a Comment

If you'll pardon the shameless Pepsi Max plug, this is actually pretty cool. Pepsi took a busy London bus stop, installed a screen and a camera, then injected some augmented reality into a few pleasantly surprised commuters' lives. I think the dodgy tiger would've absobloodylootely made me get my knickers in a twist and take off down the motorway in my trainers, as they might say in the U.K.

Chop, shoot, and burn stuff in Bound by Flame combat video

by: Randy - - Add a Comment

Spiders Games details Bound by Flame's role-playing combat system in this recent video. Your bipolar, demon-possessed character advances three combat styles: fighter, ranger, and pyromancer. The fighter tree contains hand-to-hand martial skills, the ranger tree contains bow-and-arrow attacks, and the pyromancer tree lets you huck fireballs or set your weapon on fire. A bunch of customizations also change up the damage component—and physical appearance—of your blades; from the blade itself, to the hilt, to the pommel.

The bestiary lands halfway between eastern European fantasy and horror. It'll be interesting if your companions serve a greater purpose than as complements to your weapon sets. Those details may emerge in a later video. For now, here's what it looks like when you chop/shoot/burn stuff up.

Bound by Flame launches May 9 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

Mercenary Kings coming to PlayStation Vita

by: Sam - - Add a Comment

Tribute Games recently released their new sidescrolling action RPG game Mercenary Kings on Steam and PlayStation 4, and now it sounds like the game will be making its way to PlayStation Vita as well. In an interview at PAX East Tribute Games said a Vita version is in the works and will include Cross-Buy with the PS4 version. There was no word on when the Vita version will release, but if you have a PS4 and PS+ you can play the console version for free right now.

I think a Vita port is an obvious choice for Mercenary Kings, and the Cross-Buy makes it even better. I'm hoping for a Cross-Save as well but if the game is as good as I hope it is I won't mind playing again.
