Now Loading from CD102.5 in Columbus

by: Jeremy - - Add a Comment

Thursday means that the end of the week is upon us... and that it is time to check in with Joe Jewett and the Morning Show at WWCD102.5 to run down the big video game releases for the week. I called in this morning (a little later than usual) to give a quick rundown of two free to play games launching this week, Warface and Soul Calibur: Lost Swords:

Starpoint Gemini 2 adds Steam Workshop while still in Early Access

by: Jeff - - Add a Comment

I'm not sure if this is an example of developers focusing on player-driven content and gameplay or putting the cart before the horse, Little Green Men Games has decided to implement the Steam Workshop into Starpoint Gemini 2 while it's still in Early Access. According to Danijel Mihokovic, the CTO of Little Green Men Games,

"Modding is at the heart of Starpoint Gemini 2 and we have done, and will continue to do, everything possible to open up SPG2 and allow virtually anything to be changed, tweaked and improved by the community."

Then again, maybe this is a clever way to get the community up and running while they continue to work on integrating the Oculus Rift in time for launch.

The Workshop Beta is available now with the addition of junkyards to the SPG2 world, along with some miscellaneous additions to the overall gameplay. If you want to see the full list of updates or buy into the Starpoint Gemini 2 Early Access, you should check out their Steam page. In the meantime, here's some tasty new screenshots.

Let me see your war face!

by: Jeff - - Add a Comment

Crytek's Warface Xbox 360 Edition is now available for free to all Xbox LIVE Gold members through the Xbox Game store. John got his hands on it at way back at E3 2012, and he had a lot of good things to say about it.

Warface has four classes to choose from that are all fairly self-explanitory: The Rifleman, Sniper, Medic and Engineer. Each class comes with unique weapon sets and gameplay styles; but what really caught my eye is the ability to modify your weapons mid-match. You'll be able to play with a constantly-evolving set of maps and content in five-player Co-op mode, as well as a Versus mode that can hold up to sixteen players. For more info, check out the Warface website.

A long day to wolf hard

Well-deserved praise for Telltale's A Wolf Among Us just keeps rolling in. The latest trailer shows Bigby's bad side along with praise for the game's third episode "A Crooked Mile". If the trailer catches your eye but you still need convincing to pick up this masterful installment into Bill Willingham's Fables universe, you can check out our reviews for Episode 1: Faith, Episode 2: Smoke and Mirrors, and Episode 3: A Crooked Mile.

Witcher: House of Glass #2 is out now

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment

It's an exciting time to be a gamer and a fan of comic books.  Dark Horse Comics has seemingly made it their mission to put out a comic companion to as many game franchises out there and that's great.

I'd imagine that in this environment, a comic book companion to the Witcher franchise was a sort of an "of course" moment since it's already based on a series of novels and is also a pair of the some of the most thoughtful and mature RPGs that have been made.

So the Witcher: House of Glass #2 is out now.  You can watch the trailer below.  If you haven't checked it out, then you should go download the Dark Horse app on iOS and Android.  You should also go and check out the Dark Horse digital store online.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is out NOW for Android

by: John - - Add a Comment

Well that was quick. Following a Twitter announcement yesterdayXCOM: Enemy Unknown is now available in the Google Play Store. The game will set you back $9.99.

The mobile optimized version of the game needs about 3GB of storage so before you go and purchase it, make sure you have enough space. Curiously, it lists all my devices is incompatible. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and a ASUS Transformer TF700T, yet none of those will let me play the game.

Anyways, if you have a device that's capable, go on and pick up one of the best games on the PC the past few years.

The new Skylanders game lets you trap and turn your enemies

by: John - - Add a Comment

Yesterday, Toys for Bob announced the next game in the Skylanders series. Skylanders: Trap Team, coming October 5th, will let you trap enemies and in turn, you'll be able to use them your team to fight with you.

Kaos is back to cause havoc as he unleashes a whole slew of villains onto the world of Skylands. Using these new trap crystals you can set on a brand new portal, you'll be able to capture these villains complete with the voice of the captured one coming from a speaker on the portal. Once captured, you can switch between the villain or the Skylander by pushing a button.

There will be over 40 different villains that you can trap with crystals that are spread across the same elements as those designated in the previous games. In the preview, you can see even a version of Kaos will be trappable by the player.

As for Skylanders, over 50 will be available which range from new versions of old characters to a handful of new Trap Masters for you to collect. No new swappable characters will be introduced, it seems, with Trap Team but, you can use characters from previous games in the new game.

So, it sounds like there's a nice new twist to the Skylanders gameplay. As mentioned earlier, the game will be due out on October 5th and it will be available on the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii, Wii U, and 3DS.

Night Prowler Bastet pounces her way onto the battlefield in SMITE

by: Nathan - - Add a Comment

New SMITE patch this week and with it brings the amazing Night Prowler skin for Bastet, Goddess of Cats. The Night Prowler skin bears a strong resemblance to a popular DC Comics character from the Batman Universe. I think you can put two and two together just looking at the skin.

Also included with his patch is a custom voice pack for Scarlet Coven Isis and Ms. Diagnosis Neith and Frost Maiden Freya have updated loading cards.

The Night Prowler is just another skin in a lane of absolutely amazing custom skins that Hi Rez has released lately. In the past few months we have gotten Poolseidon, Red Star and Winter Olympian Athena, Space Monkey Hun Batz, Dark Lord Sun Wukong, PrivaTyr, and Scarlet Coven Isis. I cannot wait to see what amazing skins they have planned for future updates.

UK-based Bayan Audio makes NA launch with new portable audio accessories

by: Sean Cahill - - Add a Comment

Bayan Audio has officially made their jump into the North American markets with the release of three new portable audio products in the form of the Soundbook, Soundbook X3, and Streamport Universal.  All three products have collected various awards in their lifespan from publications such as AV Forums, Android Magazine, and Recombu.

The Soundbook and Soundbook X3 both give great options for bluetooth sound that is impressive, but also give extra options such as a speakerphone feature and integrated FM radio.  The X3 is the larger of the two devices and designed to take great sound to the next level.  These are Bluetooth 4.0 capable devices, meaning that compatibility shouldn't be an issue with any device that a consumer owns. The X3 also has a power share port to charge up an MP3 player or a smartphone, giving further versatility to a great product.

We look forward to seeing more from Bayan Audio and wish them the best of luck on their first major launch here in the North American market.  For further information, check out the press release and be sure to visit Bayan at www.bayanaudio.com.

Multiplayer in Watch Dogs looks crazy good

by: John - - Add a Comment

Ubisoft has put forth a video showing about 9 minutes of Watch Dogs' multiplayer aspect. The game actually seamlessly connects the single player and multiplayer game in a fun way. You can see the various ways you can get into multiplayer with a friend or friends in the video.

I really love how your friends can appear as NPCs in your game and you can initiate a multiplayer game with them. You don't have to get into some other mode to do so and it's this smooth transition from single player to multiplayer and vice versa that has peaked my interest.

Both team and single player online portions are shown and each look fun in its own way. I'm really excited for this game to come out and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

The great XCOM: Enemy Unknown is coming to Android

by: John - - Add a Comment

One of the great turn based games in the past few years is going mobile. The XCOM twitter account has announced the XCOM: Enemy Unknown will be coming to Android on both the Google Play Store and Amazon App Store. Sorry Windows Phone folks, you're still being left out.

No word on when exactly it will hit the two respective digital stores, but if you didn't play it on the PC when it first came out, be sure to pick up the mobile version if you are on Android. Those who have an iOS device have been enjoying the mobile version of the game for about a year now.

Meet Peggle 2's Fairy Master

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment

I spent a year around 2007 nursing a truly tragic Peggle addiction.  Luckily, I was able to kick that habit despite PopCap's ability to tickle all the important parts of the human brain.

I haven't yet given Peggle 2 a try because I'm just not eager to hop back on the multiball bus (that's the cool way to refer to a Peggle addiction).

If you are bolder (or, perhaps, weaker) than I am, maybe you have.  And if that's the case, then you should know that Peggle 2 has released new downloadable content including a new Peggle Master named Windy the Fairy.  The DLC comes with brand-new levels, trails, objectives, and costumes and will cost $1.99.  Peggle 2 is out now for the Xbox One and comes out on May 7th for the Xbox 360.

To learn more, find Peggle 2 on the web and Facebook, and PopCap Games on Twitter.

IGN has the first screenshot from the next Call of Duty game

by: John - - Add a Comment

This year's Call of Duty game is coming from the folks at Sledgehammer. This will be their first full fledged Call of Duty game and it's taken them three years to develop it.

IGN has the first screenshot from the game and from what the developers were saying, this is an actual in game screenshot. The model looks really, really detailed. You can see the small imperfections in the skin and the light reflecting off the various parts of the face.

If this is an actual in game model, then the visuals should be pretty stunning. The big question though is, how will the gameplay be.

Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games, and Treyarch are now on a three year cycle to produce Call of Duty games so let's hope the extra time does allow for some better games as the series is starting to get a bit stale for those who have played them for a while now.

The Slow Mo Guys fire a cannon and channel their inner Black Flag

by: Randy - - Add a Comment

See, the problem with destruction is that it often happens too quickly. Boom. Done.

Quick is boring. Which is why I'm thankful for the Slow Mo Guys. Here they take a cannon—like, a cannonball cannon—and shoot a stack of fruity drinks, filming all of it with high-speed cinema cameras. It's lovely.

And if you've played Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, then you know the satisfying feeling you get when you launch a full broadside of cannons on an enemy and it cuts to that slow-motion third-person camera angle before you chew up the enemy's hull. That's the feeling the Slow Mo Guys' video evokes.

An MMA fighter will pound several EVE Online devs into the mat

by: Randy - - Add a Comment

Nearly a dozen EVE Online and DUST 514 developers are about to commit suicide by taking on a mixed-martial arts fighter in the ring. In an exciting but ill-advised publicity stunt, CCP devs (the makers of EVE and DUST) will climb into a ring and face off against Gunnar Nelson, a black belt in Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu, ranked #14 among Ultimate Fighting Championship's welterweights. They'll fight him, one after another, with only enough pausing between fights to haul one busted fighter out of the ring and haul in the next one.

Gunnar Nelson often looks sleepy, but he's really just stone cold. He's an Iceland native, and you can tell he's got legit Viking blood in his veins. He's not flashy in the ring. He doesn't waste a lot of movement. But he knows how to demoralize and exhuast opponents during takedowns. I'm not sure how much CCP's internet spaceships are going to help them in this situation. A little, maybe?

The fight will take place on May 2, on the second night of the upcoming three-day EVE Fanfest 2014 in Rekyjavik, Iceland.

Fast forward to about the 10-minute mark if you want to see things start to get uncomfortable for Gunnar Nelson's opponent, Jorge Santiago. Santiago puts up a nice fight, but I can imagine those EVE devs are sweating bullets watching videos like these. I'm sure it's (very) little consolation for the devs to see that DUST 514 logo on Gunnar Nelson's shorts.

Mario Golf: World Tour to offer DLC starting on launch day

by: Russell - - Add a Comment

When it launches, Mario Golf: World Tour will offer ten courses with 126 holes as well as several playable characters.  However, if you feel that's not enough and need more, Nintendo has you covered.  Starting with the game's launch on May 2nd, Nintendo will be putting up three DLC packs in May and June, each pack consisting of a new playable character and two new 18-hole courses.  The new characters will be Toadette in the first pack on May 2nd, Nabbit in the second pack later in May, and Rosalina in the third pack in June.

Each pack will cost $5.99 but if you decide to pick up a season pass, not only will you save $3 by paying only $14.99, but you'll also receive Gold Mario as a bonus playable character.  You'll also receive Gold Mario if you purchase all three packs separately, but only once all three packs are bought.  Nintendo will also be offering Trial Tournaments where you can try out the DLC courses before deciding to purchase them.

Aerena may be the turned based game I've been looking for

by: Nathan - - Add a Comment

I have never really been a fan of turned based games but then I discovered XComm Enemy Unknown and everything changed. I absolutely fell in love with XComm and wanted to seek out more games that are turned based but are also tactical in the same way. Then at PAX East this year I discovered Aerena and I think I found another turned based game I may fall in love with soon.

In Aerena you put together a team of five characters, all with their own abilities and take to the battlefield against the AI or against other opponents. The battlefield you fight on is rather small but provides for some pretty intense battles. Like I mentioned before, the game is turned based so you will have to think carefully about how you will spend each of the moves in your turn. In one turn you may move a character to a square and then attack the enemy, or you may decide to not attack at all and move more squares to get a better advantage over the enemy. Every move is critical and I feel like this going to be a game that takes a short time to learn, but a long time to master. The ultimate goal of the battle is to take down your opponents gun ship so there are also some MOBA elements in the game as well for those who are into those games.

I really wish there were more games of this genre around and I'm really excited to check out Aerena as it grows over time. The official launch of Aerena is scheduled for April 30th but you can download Aerena now on Steam on early access, Google Play and will be coming soon to the Apple App Store. The other cool thing about the game is that is features cross platform play and will allow you to play your game on all three devices. The mobile versions are free to play but the Steam version is paid. I am not sure how that works with the cross platform play but I am going to assume anything you buy or own is carried over between all three versions.

Child of Light dev diaries: a living painting

by: Sean Colleli - - Add a Comment

Nintendo might have less than a clue about keeping solid retail titles in the pipeline for Wii U, but the console's digital library is surprisingly robust. Even big publishers like Ubisoft are recognizing the console's strength for downloadable titles, like their upcoming RPG Child of Light. Inspired by classic turn based RPGs of the 16-bit era, the game is styled like a living watercolor. It's nice to see that Ubi hasn't completely abandoned Wii U, as I'm most excited to play Child of Light and future projects from UbiArt on Nintendo's home console.

Kirby Triple Deluxe gets dramatic in this TV spot

by: Sean Colleli - - Add a Comment

This TV spot for Kirby Triple Deluxe is mostly footage we've seen before, but I don't think I've ever seen Kirby gameplay set to dramatic opera before. I've always liked the Kirby games so I'll probably be picking this up come launch day. For now the Wii U is a barren wasteland of confusion, but at least Nintendo realizes that a steady supply of quality 1st party titles is needed to keep the 3DS in the black.

Alien Isolation is a world where technology won't save you

by: Sean Colleli - - Add a Comment

Creative Assembly keeps making me more confident about Alien: Isolation. They really seem to get what made Ridley Scott's 1979 film so terrifying: it wasn't about inexplicably stupid scientists making dumb decisions with trillions of dollars of technology, as in Prometheus. Rather, it was about a group of terrified space truckers, doing the best they could with the crappy tech they had on hand, making all the right decisions and still getting killed by the alien, which is precisely what made the movie scary.

Case in point: Creative Assembly is doing their best to reverse-engineer the work of Ron Cobb, the legendary concept artist who designed the look of both Scott's Alien and Cameron's sequel, Aliens. This very analog, push-button future Cobb created looked like it could actually exist and work, and Creative Assembly has taken that to heart in building their game. But once again, all of the tech in the world, advanced or 1970s clunky, won't save you from a literal force of nature like the xenomorph. This is something Aliens: Colonial Marines missed completely, so I still have high hopes for Isolation.

Behold the first look at Dragon Age: Inquisition coming to you October 7th

by: John - - Add a Comment

Yesterday the box art for Dragon Age: Inquisition popped up for everyone to see. Today, a new trailer is up with some gameplay footage for people to drool over.

Yes, the game does look absolutely stunning. It's running on the Frostbite 2 engine, which powers games like Battlefield 4. I was thoroughly surprised at how good the footage looks. The third person action looks amazing and some of the scenery is really well done.

There's plenty of action with dragons in the trailer and you get to see the Inquisition leaders as well. All told, the trailer does a great job at showing the power of the Frostbite 2 engine and how it's making Inquisition such a visually impressive game.

Dragon Age: Inquisition will be released on the PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4 on October 7th.
