Gamestop scores exclusive Hylian Shield 2DS XL

Well that figures, doesn't it? I manage to resist the Samus-themed 3DS last year, telling myself that I have a wedding and honeymoon and other expensive things to save for, and now Nintendo doubles down with this new Hylian Shield edition 2DS XL. This Gamestop exclusive portable, styled like Link's legendary shield and launching July 2nd for $159.99, is a Zelda fanboy's dream come true. It also comes with The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds preinstalled.

The only caveat is that it's a 2DS, so you won't be able to experience all of the subtle and really well done 3D effects in Link Between Worlds. I doubt that will stop Zelda fans with $160 burning a hole in their pockets. I'm pretty sure they're already salivating over the product shots below. I know I am.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is a sequel to the beloved Super NES game The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. In this follow-up, Link must once again save the kingdom of Hyrule from an evil force by transforming into a living painting and crossing into a dark parallel world. Conquer puzzles, traps and hidden rooms of deadly dungeons to save both worlds from certain doom!

New Nintendo 2DS XL plays the entire library of Nintendo 3DS games in 2D. With two large screens and built-in amiibo support, it’s the ideal portable system for any type of gamer – especially ones looking to dive into The Legend of Zelda series for the first time.
