Perhaps someone should take the checkbook away from Activision CEO Bobby Kotick. The company has been on a buying spree the past couple of months. They just bought out mobile developer King, creator of Candy Crush, and all of their properties. Yesterday it was announced that Activision Blizzard has now purchased the business of MLG (Major League Gaming).

It is no secret that Activision has a vested interest in the esports world, thanks to their Call of Duty franchise. The purchase was made in order to further their plans of creating the “ESPN of esports”. This purchase should help them make great strides in accomplishing that goal. The day to day operations of MLG should not change much at this time as MLG will continue to function and operate its offerings such as MLG.tv and its MLG Pro Circuit league.

It will be interesting to see how this fits into their future plans for the future of both Call of Duty and esports in general. You can bet that this will be a huge topic at this year's E3.
