How do racing games keep looking even better every year? [Need for Speed]

More On: Need for Speed (2015)

Every year, racing games come out. And, every year, I have my mind blown by their visuals. I say to myself, "Graphically, how can they possibly improve upon this?" And then they always do.

Need for Speed (just Need for Speed—no semicolon, no Roman numeral, no subtitle) did it again. And, sure, you can make a lot of things look more realistic with enough lens flare, water drops, dark lighting, and wet pavement, but still. Looks good yo. Also, this trailer wins the award for Most Unexpected Throwback to Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise." Unless you consider the fact that the Need for Speed series started in 1994, with "Gangsta's Pardise" skyrocketing onto pop music charts just one year later.

Wow. This racing series is over 20 years old. Time flies. I mean races by.

Need for Speed (2015) launches next week, November 3, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It'll be on Windows PC sometime in the first half of 2016.
