The gamer community mourned in unison when Sotoru Iwata suddenly passed away from cancer on July 11th this year. Like millions of kids growing up in the 80s, I can say that Iwata-san directly shaped a big part of my childhood and his work cheered me up and helped me through some tough times. No one could replace him, only succeed him, but Nintendo's new choice for CEO means the company is in good hands.

Nintendolife is reporting that Tatsumi Kimishima has been named the new CEO of Nintendo Co., Ltd. At 65 Kimishima-san has plenty of experience, currently serving the company has head of HR. However he also played several senior roles at the Pokemon Company, and also served as CEO of Nintendo of America from 2002-06. He oversaw the launch of the Wii before Reggie took the helm the following year.

Tatsumi Kimishima has his work cut out for him, with the reveal and launch of the codename NX coming up and Nintendo's first foray into mobile gaming. Iwata-san leaves some mighty big shoes to fill but I'm sure that Kimishima-san will handle the transition with grace and experience. As the old saying goes, leave luck to heaven.
