Amiibo functionality coming to older 3DS / 2DS systems next month

More On: NFC Reader / Writer

It won’t be much longer until owners of the 2DS and older 3DS models will be able to take advantage of the Amiibo products on their systems. The latest model of the New 3DS has the ability to communicate with the figures built into the system but older systems lack the ability. In order to rectify that, Nintendo announced a NFC Reader / Writer way back in early 2014. Now, nearly a year and a half later, it is finally being released.

The Nintendo NFC Reader / Writer is powered by 2 AA batteries and conntects to your system(s) wirelessly. Once connected, used can tap their Amiibos, or the upcoming Animal Crossing Amiibo Cards, to the device in order to transfer info with your game(s). The Reader is launching alongside the new 3DS title, Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer on September 25, 2015 here in the States. It will retail for $19.99 and is, honestly, a must own accessory for 2DS and older 3DS owners given Nintendo’s heavy focus on Amiibo functionality.
