Good Old Games releases Star Wars classics, digital for the first time

More On: Star Wars: Battlefront II

Oh boy oh boy oh boy!

I'm a massive, borderline-obsessive Star Wars fan, so this is fantastic news for me. GOG.com has released Star Wars: X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, Galactic Battlegrounds, and X-Wing Alliance.

X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter is probably the least exciting of the mix, as it is multiplayer and singleplayer practice mode only. But it can warm you up for X-Wing Alliance, which is the third game in the universally loved and fondly remembered X-Wing series, which is considered to be one of the best space combat simulators ever made.

Galactic Battlegrounds is exciting too. It is an RTS set in the Galactic Civil War (Episodes IV-VI for the uninitiated), and includes its expansion set during the Clone Wars (Episodes II and III). It was well received at the time, and as a fan of strategy games and anything Star Wars, I'm excited to see if it holds up.

There are more games like Battlefront II available on GOG as well, but most of them have been available previously on Steam, so it's not quite as exciting.

I'm sure there are tons of people like me that will eat anything Star Wars up, so let us all celebrate together this glorious day.
