Total War: Warhammer announcement leaked early

More On: Total War: Attila

Creative Assembly, developers of the cherished historical strategy series Total War, revealed that they would be making a foray into the Warhammer universe in December of 2012, but many fans of the series, including myself, were surprised to find that they were doing it when some information was leaked on to the TWCenter forums, and many fans, including myself, initially had mixed feelings.

In my case, I think honestly it's just because I was disappointed it was something other than Medieval 3. I felt the same way when Attila was announced, even though now I'm pumped about it. But a lot of fans have concerns about a Warhammer entry marking an end of an era of games so historically accurate that they were used to simulate battles on the History channel. Although if we're honest about the History channel, these days they would probably use Warhammer 40k to simulate alien abductions.

But I digress.

While I do love the historical element of the Total War series, I don't think it's the most important part by any means. Fantasy could give them a lot of fun things to work with to make a game that is even more alive and varied than previous entries in the series. On top of that, a lot of fans say that the Lord of the Rings mod for Medieval II is the best Total War game to date, and an official Warhammer game is definitely a step in that direction.

I think that whatever Total War game is next, it will be good, if not great. I would say great, but ugh, Empire. And the Rome II launch wasn't stellar, but they have pulled a Battlefield 4 and it's pretty good now.

I'm digressing again. Please feel free to leave your thoughts on this. Total War has one of the most diehard fanbases around, and I'm really interested to see what people are thinking about this.
