I've always felt like sound design is of under-estimated importance in shooters. I wonder how many sound designers actually fire guns so they have some sense of the nature of that specific sound because so many shooters get it wrong. Even big, popular shooters get it wrong. Halo gets it wrong.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare seems like it's not going to get it wrong. This brief trailer shows off Sledgehammer Games's philosophy when it comes to sound design and it reminds me of the behind-the-scenes sound design documentaries for movies in the Star Wars franchise in that there is at least one person who thinks sounds design is super important and they are going to make sure the work reflects that.
Good for you, CoDAW; good for you.
