Who's up for a movie based on American McGee's Alice franchise?

More On: Alice: Madness Returns Alice: Otherlands
While I have yet to play either of the games in the American McGee's Alice series (something I need to remedy at some point), the games have had some decent success.  However, what if instead of just a game, someone made a movie based on the IP?  Well, that's where Alice: Otherlands comes into play.

A couple ago, Spicy Horse launched a Kickstarter campaign to bring the world of Alice to the big screen.  The Kickstarter was a success, raising over $220,000 with more pledges coming in via Paypal.  This enables Spicy Horse to acquire the film rights to American McGee's Alice and start production on a series of digital short films with a scheduled launch date of December 2014, though negotiations for the game rights are still ongoing.

The Kickstarter link above will give more details about Alice: Otherlands.  Even though the Kickstarter is over, you can still pledge by visiting the official website for the project..

Alice is off to Otherlands

Spicy Horse's short film project Kickstarter successful, production begins soon

After a last minute push from the Alice faithful, Spicy Horse's Kickstarter for the Alice: Otherlands film rights bounded over the original $200,000 goal with $222,377 in funding in addition to more pledges coming in via Paypal.

"I'm more excited than a shark in a tornado," said American McGee, CEO of Spicy Horse. "We're already in meetings and I'm on the road next week to wrangle up more interest. Working with Alice and the Insane Children that love her is one of my favorite things in the world."

Successful funding of the Alice: Otherlands Kickstarter enables Spicy Horse to acquire the film rights to the American McGee's Alice IP and start production on a series of digital short films. Notables like Tsui Hark (Once Upon A Time in China) and Chris Vrenna of Nine Inch Nails/Marylin Manson have already announced their participation, with further outreach ongoing after the campaign's success.

Going over the original goal permits the creation of a series of animated short films, with larger animated series possibilities now available as well as development work on a feature film and potentially larger funding options for a larger-scale feature film in the future.

Pre-production on the digital shorts will begin right away with a scheduled launch date of December 2014.
