Warhammer Online introduces the novel Empire in Chaos

In bookstores now, Empire in Chaos, the first novel tied into the Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning universe is ready to enrich the lore of the September 18th game release -- despite the frighteningly boring title.  Written by Games Workshop scribe Anthony Reynolds, this novel follows the journey of Annaliese Jager...

...as she escapes her destroyed village only to be swept up in an epic battle to save the Empire from the marauding forces of Chaos.  Joined by an injured High Elf, a grizzled Witch Hunter, and a Dwarf Ironbreaker, she will battle alongside the armies of the Empire and Dwarfs against greenskin tribes and the dreaded Chaos Raven Host.  Together, this unlikely band of heroes must fight like never before to turn back the tides of darkness, or the future of the Empire is doomed.

I haven't been scoring much luck with videogame novels as of late.  The Tom Clancy's EndWar novel sits unfinished on my shelf, and I'll only bring it out if I need to be put to sleep.  Drew Karpyshyn's first novel in the Mass Effect universe, Mass Effect: Revelation, was fresh enough and freshly-paced enough to keep the very average writing moving.  But Karpyshyn's second one, Mass Effect: Ascension, is a blustering, head-shaking mess.  I (definitely) recommend Andrzej Sapkowski's The Last Wish for The Witcher fans, however.  It's excellent.  Far more coherent than the uneven Robert E. Howard stories around Conan.  I'm just sayin'.
