Tower Defense + CCGs = ...what?

by: Russell -
More On: Prime World: Defenders
I'm no stranger to collectible card games such as Magic the Gathering and Yu-gi-oh, nor am I a stranger to tower defense games (most of the time it's in Warcraft 3, but I digress).  However, I don't think I've ever seen a tower defense game mixed with a CCG.  That's basically what Prime World: Defenders is.

Prime World: Defenders is your typical classic tower defense game, except your towers, spells, traps, and so on are magic cards that you have to collect, upgrade, and use strategically.  Each victory will net you some new cards to use.  If this sounds right up your alley (I know it's up mine), you can pre-order it on Steam, and doing so will get you 20% off, early access to the beta, and three rare cards to start with: Energy Cannon, Fireball, and Emblem.  More info can be found at http://playdefenders.com.

Prime World: Defenders is now available for pre-ordering on Steam.
Fight off hordes of monstrous mutants born of a strange  ataclysmic event! Join a group of exiled treasure hunters who have ventured into the capital of an ancient empire, filled with mystery and danger.
Prime World: Defenders merges classic tower defense  gameplay with a collectible card mechanic. Your towers, your spells, your traps - all are magic cards that you can collect and upgrade as you move through the maps. You'll have to develop your own strategy, but be ready to adapt to the gifts that fate sends. Each victory earns you new cards to help you advance.

Freeze, burn, poison, explode and slash countless enemies that will try to stop you from gathering the artifacts of this old kingdom. Choose your cards carefully and play them strategically. Expect some heavy resistance along the way, from small and almost harmless mutated fungi to
powerful giant goblins and nagas.
Plus, in addition to story-driven single-player campaign Prime World: Defenders has randomly generated missions, a feature few tower defense games have implemented.
If you pre-order the game on Steam, you get a 20% discount and early access to the beta. You also get three rare and powerful cards to start: Energy Cannon, Fireball and Ice Emblem!
