Toshiba throwing a desperation HD-DVD Hail Mary?

Wow, its amazing how quickly the tide has turned in the HD-DVD and Blu-ray format war.  When Warner anounced last week that it was bailing on HD-DVD and going exclusivly to Blu-Ray, all hell broke loose.  First, New Line and HBO followed suit, and then there were the rumors that Paramount is thinking of making the jump.  Well, the latest stone was cast, as Toshiba HD-DVD players are in a full fledged fire-sale allover the net with the 1080i HD-A3 selling for a mere $139 and the 1080p HD-A30 selling for $179 on Amazon and Tiger Direct, the same price as the Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on.  In addition, the seven free HD-DVD offer is still intact ('300' and 'The Bourne Identity' come in the box).  It appears that Toshiba's only recourse is to lower the price on the players so much that the movies start jumping off shelves.  This will be an interesting situation to monitor the next few weeks, as the Blu-Ray response to the price drop could drive the nail in the coffin, or allow HD-DVD to hang around at the poker table.  Thanks to Daily Tech for digging up the info on this.
