The Hero of Time: A Labor of Love

by: Jeremy -
More On: The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time
Back in 2008, aka an internet eternity ago, IGN pulled one of the most infamous April Fools pranks on the gaming community with the release of a trailer for a movie based on Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda.  Casual Zelda players and fanboys a like were whipped into a frenzy before anyone realized that it was April 1.  Unbeknownst to most of the viewing audience, the trailer for the Zelda movie wasn't really that far fetched as an independent project had been launched nearly two years earlier known as The Legend of Zelda: The Hero of Time.  Now, over three years later, that film is now finished and available for all to enjoy.
The Hero of Time is an independent film adaptation of the Ocarina of Time and the result of a lot of hard work and dedication of a loyal team at BMB Finishes.  This project was and is truly a labor of love as the final project is openly available for all to enjoy free of charge.  The full movie is currently being hosted on Dailymotion.com with direct links available through the projects official website.

The official website will also be hosting a torrent in the future for users to download and burn their own DVD version, complete with DVD cover art.  The soundtrack is also available through the official site.

The following is the official informational statement regarding the project from BMB Finishes:

The Hero of Time is a feature-length, independent fan-film produced by BMB FINISHES in Atlanta, Georgia. It was directed and produced by Joel Musch. David Blane was also a producer of the film and starred as Link.

The Hero of Time Just had its WORLD PREMIERE on June 6th here in Atlanta and is now in the process of preparing for the next screening in one of the cities located in our HoT SPOTS page. Subscribe to the RSS feed for updates!

A great many of you have been asking about the film being released on DVD or online. We will not be releasing it online or on DVD quite yet. We still have plans to enter the film into a few festivals and would like to share it on the big screen with a great many of you first! Thanks for your patience.

There will be regular video updates and behind the scenes videos answering questions about the film etc on the youtube channel “theherooftimemovie” and here on the website.

The film was shot mainly on weekends over the span of about two years from August ‘04 through January ‘06. Post production started immediately and a rough edit void of any special fx was contrived early in ‘07. The lack of visual fx and music help was challenging to the films progress; nevertheless the film printed a final draft in Oct ‘08 thanks to all the additional help from saints like George R. Powell (composer)!

The film is set in Hyrule where a young boy from the forest (Link) is beckoned by his dreams and the sage of the forest (Deku Tree) to venture to the city of Hyrule and seek princess Zelda’s council. The evil Lord Ganondorf has plotted to overthrow the kingdom which propels Princess Zelda into hiding. Link endeavors to save them by pulling of the Master Sword in the Temple of Time. Consequently sending him 5 years into the future where Ganon now rules and threatens the future of the kingdom. Link must find a way to not only save his princess but the land he’s fervent for.
