Screens of Mafia II's PS3 exclusive DLC: The Betrayal of Jimmy

by: Tina -
Something I particularly appreciated about Mafia II over my visit to San Francisco for a preview was the game’s inherent dissimilarities to the famed Grand Theft Auto series. While GTA can feel like a slew of chore-related missions thrown at the main character, Mafia II introduced the player to a more deeply rooted, complex storyline enhanced even further by its cinematic qualities.

It’s for that shining quality that I hesitate to be excited about the announcement of the PS3-exclusive DLC, The Betrayal of Jimmy, that involves taking on the role of Jimmy the mercenary. Jimmy’s experiences will range from driving within the city to shooting and causing a general raucous in Empire Bay. Perhaps it is just me, but this sounds exactly like the kind of uninspired missions of GTA that I never appreciated.

Nevertheless, we now have eight new screenshots from the DLC to share with you. The add-on will be available to those who purchase a new copy of the game for the PS3, or on the PlayStation Network for $9.99. Take a look below to see Agent 47...er, Jimmy in the midst of his shenanigans.

The downloadable content will be accessible for free with voucher codes included with each new PlayStation 3 system copy of the game, or purchasable beginning on the day of Mafia II’s launch on August 24, through the PlayStation®Network for $9.99.

The Betrayal of Jimmy will take players into an alternate perspective of the mob through the eyes of Jimmy, a mercenary. Jimmy is the guy the other guys call when they need to finish the job. The Betrayal of Jimmy features dozens of intense newly created arcade-style, city-based missions that keep Jimmy driving, shooting and rampaging through Empire Bay. Missions will unlock as they progress, activating a slew of assassination and timed vehicle missions ending in dramatic shootouts and explosive car chases. Players will rack up points for performance, power slides, and skill shots. The scores will be immediately posted to the new leaderboard system, providing extensive re-playability, as players work to rise to the top of the ranks. Get to know Empire Bay – the executioner’s way.
