We're finally seeing the end of the PS3 Slim rumors as Sony announced today that the PS3 is official and will hit stores for $299. The new unit is 33% smaller, 33% lighter, and will come with a 120GB hard drive. It looks like Sony is phasing out the other PS3 models and I expect to see we'll see lower prices on those to help flush out the system.
It's nice to be able to put the "rumor" to bed as it's been one of the worst kept secrets of the game industry this year. This is certainly good news for PS3 third and first party developers as they'll now have a much larger audience to sell to and I imagine we'll see some kind of deal with Uncharted 2
once we get closer to it's launch date.
What do you think? Is it enough to get you to consider a PS3 (if you don't have one)? Let us know in the comments.
