Nights Into Dreams and Sonic Adventure 2 going digital

More On: NiGHTS into dreams Sonic Adventure 2 HD
It was announced at PAX, and now it's official. Launching October 2nd and 5th on PSN and XBLA respectively, two classic Sega titles get a digital rebirth: Nights Into Dreams and Sonic Adventure 2. Both will be $9.99 or 800 MS points. This is great news because both of these games are fan favorites, they're getting harder to find in their original versions, and the digital profits will probably go a long way to helping the financially beleaguered Sega.

Unless you're a nerd like me you probably don't own the original hardware and software for these titles, so the digital release is a good opportunity for old fans and newcomers alike to get these games easily and affordably. Nights Into Dreams was the big headliner for the Sega Saturn back in the day, after the console's flagship Sonic title fell apart and got cancelled. Nights was popular in the 90s but has gotten rather obscure, and hasn't seen many releases aside from a holiday expansion pack and a more recent sequel for the Wii. As the Saturn faltered and failed, Nights got harder to find.

Sonic Adventure 2 is the more readily available of the pair, because it not only got an original Dreamcast release but an updated port to the GameCube as Sonic Adventure Battle. Sonic Adventure 2 fixed a lot of the issues the original Sonic Adventure had, mainly the absolutely awful camera, but the multiplayer battle mode was updated on the gameCube and consequently, it's now separate DLC, running you about $3.00/240 MS points in the new digital versions. This is a little annoying in my opinion, but then again I can just go fire up my Saturn, Dreamcast or Cube and replay these classics like the curmudgeonly old retro nerd I am.
