Spec Ops: The Line
does something different than most modern military shooters. Instead of another "modern warfare" style FPS, Spec Ops: The Line
pulls the camera back to a third person perspective and offers the kind of cover-based combat games like Gears of War
and Mass Effect
have helped popularize; yet it remains something that modern military shooters don't bother with. I guess without the fancy sci-fi setting, developer figure there's just nothing about the character you control that you'd want to see except during cutscenes.
We don't know how successful Spec Ops: The Line
will be yet at offering a compelling narrative to go along with settings, themes, and gameplay features that don't usually go together, but I'll be sure to let you know in my upcoming review of Yager and 2K's Spec Ops: The Line
This video offers a fairly in depth look at what sets Spec Ops: The Line
apart from other modern military shooters - besides the perspective and cover-based gameplay. Spec Ops: The Line
comes out on June 26th.
