Moonraker is first mission revealed for 007 Legends

More On: 007 Legends
Activision has unveiled the first of six James Bond movies to be adapted into 007 Legends, and it is none other than 1979's Moonraker. Infamous for being the most hated of the Bond films, Moonraker was a hastily-made cash-in on the Star Wars craze of a couple years earlier. It is considered embarrassing and cheesy even among the Roger Moore Bond flicks, which is saying something.

This new trailer, however, reveals a lot about 007 Legends. While we don't see Daniel Craig outright, the trailer promises the game will be "one Bond" in "six missions." It appears that Eurocom will be doing the same thing with these six movie missions that they did with GoldenEye two years ago: adapting them onto the modern 007 continuity starring Daniel Craig. While characters from Moonraker like Jaws and Hugo Drax seem mostly unchanged, the setting, action, weapons and gadgets have all seen a major update from their corny 70s origins.

While I'm a little bummed that we apparently won't being seeing the previous Bond actors--at least in single player--I have to say I'm glad they're modernizing the movies a little. Moonraker is probably the one that needs it the worst, and since Eurocom did such a fantastic job updating GoldenEye I know they can pull off Moonraker. This leads to some other speculation, however. Is this the only Roger Moore era movie they're adapting? Will they ignore On Her Majesty's Secret Service altogether? Will movies that have previously been adapted into games, like From Russia with Love and The World is not Enough get the Daniel Craig treatment? TWINE would be particularly interesting, considering Eurocom themselves made that into a game, starring Pierce Brosnan as Bond, back on the N64. Hopefully we'll see a lot more at E3.
