Metal Gear Arcade prepares for Japanese deployment

More On: Metal Gear Arcade
Konami is just about ready to launch their 3D action game Metal Gear Arcade into the Japanese arcade scene. The title is set to be released next week, on December 20, 2010. The game isn’t likely to be one that is readily available in arcades all across Japan as it carries quite a hefty price tag (~$22,000), but a lot of that can be attributed to the game’s stereoscopic 3D screen, head tracking goggles, and a specially designed light gun controller. The game is based on the Metal Gear Online game that was bundled with Metal Gear Solid 4.

The game is an online combat game which allows players to connect to other cabinets throughout Japan for competitive online play. Players have the ability to save their custom built characters, which can be leveled and accessorized per their wishes, using Konami’s Amusement Pass system. While nothing has been announced, it isn’t that far of a stretch to consider this game as a release candidate for the PlayStation 3 platform in the home market(s). Considering that the system now supports stereoscopic 3D capabilities and the soon to be release PlayStation Move Sharp Shooter attachment looks eerily similar to Metal Gear Arcade’s light gun controller... it seems to me that the game would be a perfect match for the system.
