Part of me saw this coming and while it's not official yet, Interplay could be on its way out. Develop has a story
on the current situation of Interplay and it's not looking too good.
At the turn of the year, Interplay had $3,00 in hand and a working capital deficit of close to $3 million. Yeah, that's not good.
They have a few projects in line, but now all of them are in jeopardy. The biggest one, of course, is the Fallout MMORPG
, that they've fought hard to hold on and to try and develop. After all said and done, we could see what I view as the inevitable: Fallout MMORPG rights going to Bethesda, who will then put a full staff on board to try and develop.
Interplay was one of my favorite studios growing up with some great PC titles that I have many fond memories of. Games such as The Bard's Tale, Wasteland, Fallout 1 and 2, Star Trek 25th Anniversary, and Baldur's Gate just to name a few. We might be looking at the last few months of a once great studio.
