E3 2010: First gameplay from Sonic Colors

After weeks of that same pre-rendered teaser trailer, we finally get a look at the gameplay in Sonic Colors, courtesy of Gametrailers. I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but WOW.

It's like Sega looked into my head and saw exactly what I wanted out of a Sonic game. The gameplay looks like a mixture of 2D sidescrolling and 3D action, similar to the brief 3D sequences in Sonic Rush but more plentiful and implemented more smoothly. Sonic also has some cool new powers like that drill and laser move, and they're seamlessly integrated into the gameplay. Best of all it's fast, blisteringly fast, and packed with the retina-melting colors and effects that made the series so fresh and vibrant to begin with. I just hope this brief taste is what the whole game is like, none of that bait and switch stuff we got with Sonic Unleashed. If every level is like this one, then this is the game I've wanted ever since Sonic Adventure came out eleven years ago.
