E3 07: Kane and Lynch Impressions

Eidos deserves some kudos for keeping the spirit of the old E3 alive with their E3 booth.  Instead of just holding appointment in a boring old hotel room with a few small decorations they went whole hog by decorating the rooms for Kane and Lynch and Age of Conan.  The Age of Conan room was decorated to look like one of the huts from the game while the Kane and Lynch room was all white with transparent benches filled with money, bullets, and fake drugs.

Kane and Lynch tells the tale of Kane (a mercenary) and Lynch (a medicated serial killer) as they try to lands jobs and survive.  The duo reminded me a bit of Mr. Kitt and Mr. Wiit from the James Bond movie Diamonds are Forever but without all of the homosexual overtones.  The game uses an updated version of the Hitman: Blood Money engine and the game does look pretty good.

I've got a feeling that Kane and Lynch is going to draw some flak when it comes out later this year.  Neither of the main characters is particularly likeable and the game is not for the squeamish as you can kill anyone and everyone including police officers. The game does have some tactical elements as there are some missions where you have a squad of cronies to command including the demo level that featured a street battle reminiscent of the amazing street battle from the movie Heat.   The game will be available for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 and I'm interested to see if the game raises any eyebrows when it hits shelves.
