Codemasters abandons the THQ-ship...

...and they swam to a Warner Bros. lifeboat.

Codemasters, the developer behind numerous series such as DiRT and F1, is taking its proverbial ball elsewhere. While THQ has traditionally been the publisher of choice for the European developer, the company has inked a new deal with Warner Bros. to distribute its games in the future. Warner Bros. will be responsible for the publishing of Codemasters’ entire 2012 lineup, including DiRT Showdown and F1 2012.

I don’t think that anyone should be surprised by this announcement, especially considering the financial distress that THQ has found itself in over the course of the past year. Codemasters has held steady but now has to look out for their selves, which makes perfect business-sense. Who knows, this may actually work to THQ’s benefit as it alleviates some financial pressure from them and could help them on their road to recovery as they shift their focus and resources inwards.
