Capcom announces three more Resident Evil games

More On: Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles
With the release of Resident Evil 5 just hours away, Capcom has to capitalize on the hype by announcing three more Resident Evil games for the Wii.  Nintendo fans may not get the visually-stunning Resident Evil 5 on their system of choice, but they will have a horde of zombies to kill thanks to the games announced today.  Up first is the sequel to the moderately successful (though critically mixed) Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, titled Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles.  Like its predecessor, The Darkside Chronicles will be an on-rails lightgun-style shooter.  This time the game will be based around Resident Evil 2, featuring fan favorites Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy.  Hopefully Capcom can find that missing ingredient that turns a so-so shooter into a must-own Wii game.

Also coming to the Wii is Resident Evil Zero and the remake of the original Resident Evil.  Unfortunately these are not remakes, but rather the games that were released on the GameCube several years ago.  The only real significant difference is the way the game controls, adding Wii motion controls.  This line of Resident Evil classics is expected later in the year for $29.99.  While the budget price is welcome, it's a shame that Capcom didn't offer something more compelling.  We've known about the Wii version of Resident Evil Zero for ages, and I suspect that most Resident Evil fans already own the impressive GameCube remake.  It seems like there's room for somebody to remake some of the forgotten installments, such as Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and Resident Evil: Code Veronica.  Now that would be something to get excited about.
