As I pressed on through the seemingly endless amount of gigantic televisions, I found a treasure trove of new products in the Philips booth with Craig Eldon, my tour guide into the land of Ambilight displays.

The popular Ambilight series is seeing some changes in 2007 with the addition of 1080p HD 42", 47", and 52" models. In addition, the Ambilight feature is now created with an LED on all of the new models from the 32" unit up. The new Ambilights will begin appearing in March, with the 52" model available in September.

One of the most intriguing products on display was the amBX, a gaming technology designed to work with games to provide a more immersive surround experience. Through the inclusion of lights, a wrist rest with built in vibration, and fans, with the standard 2.1 surround sound speakers, the AmBX looks to expand gaming peripherals in an entirely new direction.

The other interesting technology was Philips new wireless HDMI cables. It is said to be the first and only device that transmits uncompressed HDMI signal wirelessly. Using the Ultra Wideband range, the wireless HDMI should experience no interference. It will be interesting to see if such a device will take off. With the growing trend of wall mounted HD displays, fewer wires would seemingly be a quickly adopted idea.
