Despite what GamePolitics thinks, it looks like Dead Space has been banned in China, Germany, and Japan according to the game`s official blog. Germany isn`t too much of a surprise but China and Japan are. It does look like the gruesomeness of the game combined with the "would be suicides" are what pushed the game into the land of the banned. Sucks for them as the game is looking to be one of the better games of the year.

It saddens me that so many will not be able to play this game (legally). I am not a big fan of blood and gore or slashers or horror movies. However from what I've seen Dead Space is more than just meaningless violence and blood shed but a visceral and down right scary experience. Which is why this announcement makes me even more excited for the game's release because the game is so twisted and messed up that it is incredibly disturbing on more than just the bloody body count factor. Bring on the deadly space zombies!

Hm. That's an odd banning. I mean, it's bloody, sure, but it's monster bloody. I guess I'll need to check out some more videos to see what the "problem" is.
Is it the individual body-part targeting? Because you can certainly do that with the Pip Boy in Fallout 3. And Fallout 3 has you creating huge gushers of blood on human opponents, not monsters. Seems to me -- were I in the business of banning games -- that that'd be a more ban-worthy offense.
