AMD just announced today that they are going to be the first ones to use GDDR5 memory for their next line of ATI Radeon cards. For perspective, GDD5 has 5X the data rates as GDDR3 and 4X that of GDDR4 allowing for more bandwidth. The GDDR5 memory has an added benefit of increase calculation accuracy via error detection mechanisms built in. To help bring this to market, they are working with three vendors so they should have plenty of chips for their upcoming cards.
